I wouldn’t say “incredibly” sounds like the kid worked hard for it.

Yes, and depending on who you are and what colleges you apply to getting into 12 isn’t that hard. I went five for six—missed on Harvard, thank God. Best thing Harvard could have done for me. They’re too cocky and they can’t play hockey.

If I’d added Yale, Stanford, and Chicago to my application list, I’m sure my percentage would have ended up looking even worse than it did.

I’m guessing that if this guy had tried, affirmative action would have put him in a black studies program at a more “prestigious” school. I hope a full-ride at OSU ends up being a good fit.

It is incredible in light of where he came from. Most people tend to move only slightly up from their starting point. Poor people usually stay poor and middle class usually stays middle class.

It takes a lot more work to start from poverty and end up middle class than having been born into middle class and maintained it.
