TIPS FOR THE PITS

We have all been there....Blue Monday. Nothing is more miserable than feeling depressed. Depression has been, and continues to be, the world's #1 public health problem. All of us are susceptible to depression. It all begins with the blues, which come and go like the common cold. The "Poor Me" syndrome hits us and drags us to the pits of depression.

What are the signs of depression? Dragging through the day, wondering how we will get through it; getting bogged down at the least little obstacle; thinking negatively about everything; all we see are pessimism and gloom. It's looking at life and seeing only emptiness, hopelessness, and no way out.

But friend, there is hope! Let me suggest tried and proven help from Scripture. These are "Tips for the Pits".

1....We must first check our thinking. Often we feel the way we think. We must live by our convictions, not by our feelings. God can work even our present situation into a positive good for us. "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Positive belief always destroys negative, depressive doubts.

2....You can't keep any feelings from coming to you, but you can determine how you will manage them. Do not offer bad feelings a lounge chair. Instead, allow God to lift and cleanse your mind to a higher, more positive level.

3....No mood can be your master. Allow God to be your only Lord. As your mind is fixed on God, you will find your strength renewed. You can keep yourself "encouraged in the Lord". You are important to others. You are needed. Your life matters and has importance. Jesus believed it enough to die for YOU!

4....Decide to be a source of encouragement to someone else. The written Word of God tells us, "Anxious hearts are very heavy, but a word of encouragement does wonders". "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths." Watch what happens to your depression when you encourage someone else!

Prayer: Holy God, what power is available in a few simple words of encouragement. Remind me to be an encourager in the lives of others for the good of both of us. Amen

The Forecaster’s Mistake

Bible in a Year:

Let the one who has my word speak it faithfully.

Jeremiah 23:28

At noon on September 21, 1938, a young meteorologist warned the U.S. Weather Bureau of two fronts forcing a hurricane northward toward New England. But the chief of forecasting scoffed at Charles Pierce’s prediction. Surely a tropical storm wouldn’t strike so far north.

Two hours later, the 1938 New England Hurricane made landfall on Long Island. By 4:00 p.m. it had reached New England, tossing ships onto land as homes crumbled into the sea. More than six hundred people died. Had the victims received Pierce’s warning—based on solid data and his detailed maps—they likely would have survived.

The concept of knowing whose word to heed has precedent in Scripture. In Jeremiah’s day, God warned His people against false prophets. “Do not listen [to them],” He said. “They fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord” (Jeremiah 23:16). God said of them, “If they had stood in my council, they would have proclaimed my words to my people” (v. 22).

“False prophets” are still with us. “Experts” dispense advice while ignoring God altogether or twisting His words to suit their purposes. But through His Word and Spirit, God has given us what we need to begin to discern the false from the true. As we gauge everything by the truth of His Word, our own words and lives will increasingly reflect that truth to others.

Reflect & Pray

What’s the standard I use when I decide whether something is true? What in my attitude needs to change toward those who disagree with me?

God, so many claim to speak for You these days. Help us learn what You really have to say. Make us sensitive to Your Spirit, not the spirit of this world.

Good evening, Mayor, and a Blessed Lord’s day to you and yours.

We had some sun this morning, but overcast now is supposed to lead to rain for the next few days.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...has the predicted bad weather passed you by? You and Penny able to get out and walk the neighborhood?

A Blessed Lord’s Day and Shavua Tov to you and yours.

We have a few days of rain on the way...it helps melt the HUGE pile of snow on my front lawn. The back is snowless, but muddy where all the ducks congregate.

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Any warmth and dryness before your storm?

AJ and Cindy have been able to move back to Gypsy at St Simons Island, so now they are on the east side of Georgia and work on her.

Hopefully they will be able to at least take day sails soon.

Howdy, Kathy.

Dry today after a little rain overnight, but not warm. Right brisk out there today and already pretty nippy.

We aren’t expecting anything wild here tomorrow but I feel bad for the folks in MS and AL. They’re in the bulls eye for it.

WOOHOO for AJ and Cindy! Glad they’re finally able to spend time on Gypsy. Been a long time coming!

I see there’s been a little sunshine breaking out off and on up there today. Much better visibility than the last two days.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
