As produce sales at grocery stores surge during the coronavirus pandemic, one item is selling particularly well -- mushrooms.
During the last week of March, fresh mushroom sales were up 18 percent over the same time last year, compared to an 8 percent rise in overall fresh produce sales, according to the Chicago-based data and analytics firm IRI.

Also, mushrooms have many disease-fighting properties.
I wonder how sales of marsala wine are doing.
Great in stews, soups and sautéing.
Unami!
Great - take my share, can’t stand the nasty things...
Interesting to me as I have been using a lot of mushrooms lately. I use them in a sauce to add to baked potatoes in addition to butter and cream cheese.
We have a patch of wild morels on our property that gives up a few pounds every year - not bad alongside a ribeye steak.
Just made a new pasta recipe last night with shallots, broccoli and mushrooms. I tossed in some leftover roast pork. It was delicious!
I wonder about wine and beer sales. I normally have a glass of wine or a beer on weekend evenings especially when I am cooking....now: It’s just one big uber-weekend, cooking every evening and enjoying wine, hard cider or beer while doing so.
Read the title and immediately thought they were referring to the drugs.
Also, this must be mentioned per internet regs.
Oops. Your screen name indicates mushroom mastery ;^)
My staple is chipotle cream sauce. Put some butter in a sauce pan and with a fork smash a few of the chipotle peppers in a red sauce that you can buy in a can from the grocery store. Theyre with the salsas and canned peppers like Ortega green Chiles. Add some heavy whipping cream and then cook it down a little. I use it on pork (delicious), baked potatoes, etc. every time I make it for someone new they love it and are amazed it so easy to make.
I sort of remember a friend’s steak and (magic) mushroom dinner in the late 70’s. Sort of...
I love mushrooms!
I could just about live on mushrooms and tomatoes.
Throw in some pasta , alfredo sauce and bacon, YUM!
I used to live around Kennett Square, Pa (the self proclaimed mushroom capital of the world). It is beautiful country. ALL the mushrooms are cultivated by Mexicans (illegal,semi-legal and legal). It’s just the way it is and will always be.
Hey, stroganoff is good!
“I sort of remember”
LOL! I sort of remember those days too.
If people are buying mushrooms, then they must also be about ready to eat berries and grapes again.
So far, I have only bought fresh fruit and fresh vegetables that I can give a quick wash with soap and water.
