On rounds in a 20-bed intensive care unit (ICU) one recent day, physician Joshua Denson assessed two patients with seizures, many respiratory failure and others whose kidneys were on a dangerous downhill slide. Days earlier, his rounds had been interrupted as his team tried, and failed, to resuscitate a young woman whose heart had stopped. All shared one thing, says Denson, a pulmonary and critical care physician at Tulane University. They are all COVID positive.
As the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 surges past 2.2 million globally and deaths surpass 150,000, clinicians and pathologists are struggling to understand the damage wrought by the coronavirus as it tears through the body. They are realizing that although the lungs are ground zero, its reach can extend to many organs including the heart and blood vessels, kidneys, gut, and brain.
[The disease] can attack almost anything in the body with devastating consequences, says cardiologist Harlan Krumholz, Its ferocity is breathtaking and humbling.
Understanding the rampage could help the doctors on the front lines treat the fraction of infected people who become desperately and sometimes mysteriously ill. Does a dangerous, newly observed tendency to blood clotting transform some mild cases into life-threatening emergencies? Is an overzealous immune response behind the worst cases, suggesting treatment with immune-suppressing drugs could help? What explains the startlingly low blood oxygen that some physicians are reporting in patients who nonetheless are not gasping for breath? ...
What follows is a snapshot of the fast-evolving understanding of how the virus attacks cells around the body, especially in the roughly 5% of patients who become critically ill. Despite the more than 1000 papers now spilling into journals and onto preprint servers every week, a clear picture is elusive, as the virus acts like no microbe humanity has ever seen. ....

On this we agree. I am glad we are not in charge though. This has me boiling.
I read the article. It is well written with a flair for the dramatic. But this is the description[til. Of multiorgqn system failure (MOSF). This is not unique to Covid. People can get this from literally anything. In critical care we break the body into its 8 component systems and treat each accordingly.
There is no doubt that MOSF, ARDS, viral induced coagulopathy and cardiomyopathy and acute injury failure and shock liver are tragic, But thee is no doubt that this is a generic description of what is seen literally thousands of times in critical care units a day in the United States.
This is NOT a unique description of CoVid but rather an excellent description of what we face daily. From many diseases. In my judgment the good thing about this pandemic is that people will start to realized what Intensivists do literally every day. Its ehy s critically ill patient takes at least 45 - 60 of our undivided attention. And why we work in multidisciplinary teams. Its why we can only se 12 patients a day and properly treat them when they are truly critically ill
I suspect those "in the know" already know its a biowarfare experiment, that it got out of the lab. That's some treaty violations right there. Compound it with restricting travel inside China while allowing international travel where the virus could spread, and delaying 6 weeks of response with the WHO in its pocket regarding human to human transmission--thats an act of war. And its why a good chunk of the media and Deep Staters are trying to steer a narrative. War with China would be disruptive to say the least, especially to those (in the US) who have profited at the expense of US citizens.

Crucial. Please read.Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old farts life, it's worth it.
A lamppost is too dignified for the ChiCom thugs.
Dr Fauci was apparently funding them to do research that was illegal here in the USofA.
The survivors will be.
bump for tomorrow
My mom is 93 and was widowed in December. She moved into a nice new assisted living home, which is really an apartment. They have been under lock down for a couple of weeks, suburb of Tulsa. She had been loving the place, Bingo, Dominoes, etc. She sold her car, but they have a shuttle if they want to get out. I am sure she will be happy to stop the lock down! She gets around better than I do.
covid19 switch medicine bkmk
That’s one mofo bioweapon.
We both had flu a couple of years ago. I was sick in bed for 3 months, he was up and around and taking care of me.
Partial immunity thru other viral infections? Our bodies have encountered many viruses. Some of our genetics incorporates fragments of a viral origin.
I am an old fart and my 4 granddaughters are children, worth saving! I do not like the quarantine though.
Could blood thinners be used to block the clotting action?
We’d have known all this in January... if China hadn’t lied and lied and lied.
In my case I haven’t had a cold in 47 years and only one case of the flu in the last 37 years which was a mild three day annoyance. I don’t think it’s possible that I’ve gone all those years without ever contacting those viruses in some way.
Viruses affect different people in different ways.
No, throw the keys to the Christian Chinese, we don’t want or need any muslims in charge of countries.
