Earth had its second-warmest March ever recorded

Earth is off to a hot start in 2020.

On the heels of the warmest January in recorded history and the second-warmest February, the planet has now logged its second-hottest March on record, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Thursday.

It’s just the latest milestone in what NOAA says is a clear, long-term warming trend. And though there are nine months left in the year, the agency’s models are already suggesting that there’s a good chance that 2020 could end up as the warmest year since record-keeping began in 1880.

“It does look like there’s a better-than-half probability that we will finish the year warmest on record,” Deke Arndt, chief of the monitoring branch at NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, said Thursday in a news briefing about the agency’s latest monthly climate report.

The recent temperature records show that even amid natural variations, the planet is continuing to warm at an accelerated pace.

The warm temperatures shrank Arctic sea ice to its 11th-lowest extent, covering 251,000 square miles.

“Arctic sea ice tends to expand to its largest footprint over the month of March,” Arndt said. “This year, it was small.”

“Long-term warming is a lot like riding on an escalator — the longer you stay on the escalator, the higher you go,” he said. “El Niño is like standing tall and crouching down as you’re riding up that escalator. While we’re not at the stand-as-tall-as-you-can El Niño stage, we’re not exactly crouching down either.”

It snowed here in York yesterday morning, and there’s frost this morning, as well.

Currently 27 here in S.E. Michigan. Daily average for this time of year is around 60 but they’re only predicting a high of 37 for the day with some snow likely.....

About the same conditions here in my locale. And we had an overnight dusting Wednesday going into Thursday. But yeah, I guess we have to swallow this bunch of slop from NBC.

It’s very unusual to get 85-90 degree temps in Pennsylvania in March.
That’s why i am down in S.Florida. :)

Upstate...We're about 10 degrees below normal.

Absolutely impossible to know what the temperature of the earth should be at any given point in time. Think of the earth's temperature constantly self-correcting...winds, moisture, sunshine.

Why would anyone in the universe think that the temperatures in 1600, or 1700 or 1800 or 1000 BC were the temperature that the earth be now. Cant's have it both ways.

What makes you think they were screw-ups? Every last one has been a computer generated product to fit a political agenda.

It’s been really cold here in the Dallas area. It’s supposed to get down to 45 tonight, and was 35 a couple of nights ago. That’s unheard of here in April!

The US has been stripped of trillions of dollars of wealth. 22 million newly unemployed. Poor, hungry and unemployed people don’t worry about global warming.
