Anthony Fauci, the nations leading infectious disease expert, said Thursday evening that diseases like the novel coronavirus dont just disappear.
Fauci was asked during an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham if COVID-19 could "disappear" like SARS did in 2004.
Anything could, Laura, but I must say that the degree of efficiency of transmissibility of this is really unprecedented in anything that Ive seen. Its an extraordinarily efficient virus in transmitting from one person to another, Fauci said. These kinds of viruses dont just disappear.
Earlier in the interview, Ingraham asked why the U.S. is pegging on going back to normal with a vaccine, when that wasnt the case for SARS or HIV/AIDS.
Fauci said its inefficient to compare the current pandemic to HIV/AIDS or SARS because the diseases behave differently, calling the rate of transmission in COVID-19 unprecedented.
This is different, Fauci said. ...So I think its a little misleading maybe to compare what were going through now with HIV or SARS, theyre really different.
Fauci has previously come under criticism for exercising caution when discussing the public health risks of reopening the economy fully. The doctor has said that there needs to be a vigorous increase in testing in the United States before the country can think about a phased approach to reopening and a vaccine needs to be created.

yup bioweapons don’t just disappear
too much of an ‘investment’
God will have the final say.
Chinese bio-weapon is Chinese bio-weapon.
Bioweapons like this can be destroyed by decontamination.
As a practical matter, one of the things we need to open to get back to something resembling normalcy are our courts. I see this as problematic for a while.
Anything could, Laura, but I must say that the degree of efficiency of transmissibility of this is really unprecedented in anything that Ive seen.
Is this really true? Recent reports suggested transmission was not particularly more efficient.
A bigun in Beijing would tickle me. Megatons will kill the virus. Makers
I wish some of our infectious disease experts would disappear
Kind of like you Fauci, huh...
Ironically...
This coronavirus so excited the scientific community that defenses against it and it’s like may, indeed, lead to them ALL ‘disappearing’.
true. diseases don’t disappear:
16 Apr: iNews UK: Coronavirus: Cancer treatment cutbacks could lead to 60,000 premature deaths, oncologist warns
Vital cancer care has been stopped in various regions with a postcode lottery developing on whether treatment goes ahead as planned
By Paul Gallagher
Leading cancer charities are dealing with an increasing surge in calls from cancer patients concerned about delays to their treatment amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Vital cancer care has been stopped in various regions with a postcode lottery developing whether a patient’s chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery is delayed or even cancelled by their NHS trust. Some patients are being told chemotherapy is no longer an option because it would leave their immune system weakened and therefore put them at greater risk of falling seriously ill if they contract Covid-19...
Professor Karol Sikora, chief medical officer at Rutherford Health and former head of the World Health Organisation’s cancer program, told i: “Let’s say the lockdown went on for six months and hospitals couldn’t complete cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, we’ve come to the conclusion that up to 60,000 people in the UK will die if they have to wait that long for treatment...

14 Apr: Telegraph UK: Just 19 patients treated at 4,000-bed NHS Nightingale hospital in London over Easter weekend
Few patients were treated at new overflow facility as intensive care capacity at existing London hospitals never went above 80 per cent
By Henry Bodkin
The new 4,000-bed temporary NHS Nightingale hospital in east London treated just 19 patients over the Easter weekend, it has emerged.
Leaked data shows the tiny handful of patients were treated at the huge overflow facility as intensive care capacity at other London hospitals did not go above 80 per cent.
It comes as an NHS chief in the north-east of England predicted that the Nightingale hospital under construction there is unlikely to be needed.
Occupying the Excel conference and events centre, NHS Nightingale London was built in just nine days after a massive operation involving military planners.
Including 2,900 intensive care beds, it is principally intended to be a critical care facility for seriously ill but stable Covid-19 patients who have transferred from permanent London hospitals...

what do you say to the lockdowns cancelling elective surgery and various other treatments, Fauci?
And diseases like Dr. Fraud never seem to dissapear.
If it’s not a bio weapon, it should be, as it’s perfect for that purpose.
So many people can apparently get it & have mild or no symptoms.... but be contagious and out and about spreading it. Some of those things like Ebola fizzled out because it made everyone who contracted it too sick to do much spreading.
No, they don’t disappear... but they are controlled. Polio was rampant for a time..but it was controlled...same with the rest of the diseases..
then obama showed up on TV this week...he didn’t disappear either. ya know he was lying when he gave biden a nod...he said biden was the one to led us out of this mess... and we all know biden can’t do it..is not able to do much of anything... let alone run the country....
isn’t it refreshing to have a President that does not throw the fake rhetoric around.
Does anyone really think it was accidentally released?
Fauci broke the law.
It will disappear after Trump is no longer in office. Just watch and see.
Neither has the common cold, or strep throat, or sinus infections, or pneumonia, or influenza, or AIDS, or scarlet fever.
We are just going to have to learn to fight the COVID19 thing.
The doctors have said tha about transmission, but I don’t believe it...hospitals did not get overwhelmed generally, except in a few urban places. It’s a generalization I believe they are using.
