Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Wednesday said that the aircraft carrier that docked in Guam after hundreds of sailors were infected with coronavirus could be back at sea in a few weeks.
Espers comments on the USS Theodore Roosevelt came after the Navy said earlier Wednesday that 615 sailors from the ship have tested positive for COVID-19, and 4,046 of the 4,800-person crew have been moved ashore in Guam.
The Pentagon chief said on Fox News that a majority of sailors who have the virus are asymptomatic and so were trying to be doubly careful as we clean that ship up and get the sailors back to sea which we think will happen in a few weeks here.
The Roosevelt has been in Guam since March 27 after the virus broke out among sailors, one of whom has since died after being admitted to an intensive care.
Another sailor was in intensive care on Tuesday at the U.S. Naval Hospital Guam, and four other sailors are also being treated at the medical facility but not in the ICU.

Just tell our enemies to wait a few weeks - then well have our pants on, had our coffee and will be ready to go.
This isn’t for the poster, but why is our navy telling the world the ready condition of our military?
Loose lips sink ships....
Because the now-former Captain already leaked the info that the carrier was out of service. At this point, there’s no advantage in keeping the information about this specific carrier out of the public view - and plenty of value in releasing *and using* the info.
The one thing I have never seen. Where was the letter sent by this Captain. I still don’t know.
“We fight tonight” is still a valid mantra - if they had to they could be at sea and combat-ready in under 24 hours.
Now how do we solve the problem of ensuring our personnel aren’t infected with something during a port call...
Well, 5 is "under 24"....
Your dangerous Maverick.
CHINA: We love it when a plan comes together.
TAIWAN: Battle Stations

Yes, by all means, announce to the world when our carriers will be ready. That’s really smart. My God, what has happened to our military?? Are they all living on salt-peter and Zoloft?
It was an email and he has admitted sending it. He CC’d the SF Chronicle: https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Exclusive-Captain-of-aircraft-carrier-with-15167883.php
The ex-captain, now relieved of duty, announced to the world our carrier was out of commission... cat’s out of the bag. Way out of the bag.
Good luck with that...
Though it might be a good idea to not put into foreign ports during a pandemic...
I won’t print what I’m thinking about whoever signed off on that.
Where was the letter sent by this Captain. I still dont know.Apparently he forgot to CC it to: DariusBane

Thank you. That was the missing piece for me.
