On the top 10 list of things to do is stop funding research in the People's Republic of China. I don't think NIH research had anything to do with the pandemic, but it's beyond insane that American taxpayers were providing funding to research being carried out in an enemy country whose facilities very likely intersected with a bioweapons program. We're literally funding China's plans to kill Americans.
It has to stop.
The laboratory at the centre of scrutiny over the pandemic has been carrying out research on bats from the cave which scientists believe is the original source of the devastating outbreak.
Documents obtained by The Mail on Sunday show the Wuhan Institute of Virology undertook coronavirus experiments on mammals captured more than 1,000 miles away in Yunnan funded by a $3.7 million grant from the US government.
It comes after this newspaper revealed last week that Ministers here now fear that the pandemic could have been caused by a virus leaking from the institute.
Senior Government sources said that while 'the balance of scientific advice' was still that the deadly virus was first transmitted to humans from a live animal market in Wuhan, an accident at the laboratory in the Chinese city was 'no longer being discounted'.
Now The Mail on Sunday has learned that scientists there experimented on bats as part of a project funded by the US National Institutes of Health, which continues to licence the Wuhan laboratory to receive American money for experiments.
Results of the research were published in November 2017 under the heading: 'Discovery of a rich gene pool of bat SARS-related coronaviruses provides new insights into the origin of SARS coronavirus.'
The exercise was summarised as: 'Bats in a cave in Yunnan, China were captured and sampled for coronaviruses used for lab experiments.
Some of this research was carried out a while ago. But the practice of funding research in China is fundamentally toxic.
As the PRC has proven, it can't be trusted to cooperate in fighting diseases that come from its own soil. It's not trustworthy and we should not be funding any research that takes place in China.
Meanwhile though, it's all but inevitable that the virus did come out of a lab. The only question now is whether it was released intentionally or unintentionalyl.
The concern seems to be over money.
How about researchers? How many or which Americans were actually in China working on the project?
We will never know the WHO what and where.
Would have been nice of someone had asked about this at yesterday’s press conference.
But no, they were just there to melt-down on Trump over a video.
The real irony is that the US banned this type research in 2014.
Lab-Made Coronavirus Triggers Debate The creation of a chimeric SARS-like virus has scientists discussing the risks of gain-of-function research.

n October 2013, the US government put a stop to all federal funding for gain-of-function studies, with particular concern rising about influenza, SARS, and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS).
NIH [National Institutes of Health] has funded such studies because they help define the fundamental nature of human-pathogen interactions, enable the assessment of the pandemic potential of emerging infectious agents, and inform public health and preparedness efforts, NIH Director Francis Collins said in a statement at the time. These studies, however, also entail biosafety and biosecurity risks, which need to be understood better.
Well, just for the record and not to defend problems of Chinese labs, but the re might be a reason for American involvement.
There has been American bat disease research that I think was rabies oriented. Cave dwelling bats can live close together and contact disease from each other where they congregate, where they live. They leave the caves at night and cover fairly great dispersed areas. They can in fact be a significant rabies/disease vector.
If the Chinese were studying bats as disease vectors it seems very logical for American researchers with experience to be involved. It is likely that one of the bat virus studied is Covid-19.
How it got lose across the world is the issue
Also I read this was occurring during the Usurper Administration.
I see some on Facebook are blaming Trump for allowing the money to go toward this study.
I find it interesting that the journal article chart summarizing the samples collected states that the samples were collected by “Anal Swab”
The funding ran into the millions and it was sent beginning 2014

Was that turned into this ?
Would a runaway plague created by a nation which could threaten populations of an enemy cause them to react by demanding extreme restriction of movement by its population to prevent its spread ? Thus wind up fragmenting its economy Done to stop the return of manufacturing of products back to the US that went to China. China backers here who’s family members are making millions from China through their political connections will be hit hard are also claiming that Trumps alleged stock ownership in a quinine pills maker claim its a controlling interest in a product to be totally ineffective and when used requires a severe restriction of movement when near a possible carrier known as a shutdown because of its rapid transmission .
Mugging the President has priority over everything.
Hmmm Who was president in 2014?
Five years of Obama grants helped make this fun spring possible.
Glad I didn’t read that
Gives new meaning to batsh*t crazy.
The disease is carried in bat feces.
The very obvious none disclosure of the time of the grant or grants is a big clue. If the report was published in 2017, one can only deduce that the money was given during a prior administration.
Knowing that — we can deduce that it was under Obama’s administration and that is the reason the date or dates are not provided.
