New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has rebuked President Trump's claims that he has blanket authority to order a reopening of the country. In a heated press conference inside the White House on Monday evening, Trump asserted that his office holds 'absolute power' over the shutdowns But Cuomo said later Monday that the last time he checked the US had 'a constitution...not a king'. The governor went on to accuse Trump of an 'abrogation of the Constitution', before threatening the president with a lawsuit should he put New Yorkers at risk. 'The close down was left to the governors to do individually state by state. Now the reopen should be total authority? That makes no sense,' Cuomo said. In a heated press briefing, Trump launched a furious attack on the media and screened a White House-produced video praising his response to the virus.

But did President Obama ever declare a national emergency? What the reporters yesterday didn’t seem to grasp is that once that act is invoked, the President does have unique authority - above his regular Constitutional delegated powers - to deal with a crisis. This is the first time since WW2/Korean War that all fifty states are under a state of emergency.
IMHO, I think we are experiencing a new type of national attack that isn’t all together an “accident.” It may have started as one, but it was quickly directed towards us specifically so as to tilt the global balance of power in a particular direction.
For instance, how is it that New York City has had such a potent spread of COVID19 when Chinese cities with even greater population escaped a similar fate yet located closer to Wuhan? Why did the month or so of Chinese government inaction about the virus in Wuhan not effect those huge coastal cities as well? Maybe it did and the media blackout from those areas was successful and other whistleblowers were silenced quickly? It is just a very strange coincidence.

Yes. I’ve read reports here and there that China’s numbers are being reported as 20% of reality, if that much.
Barry declared one for swine flu, IIRC, but only after thousands had died. Mostly kids. You know, people who can’t vote.
It was more like a response to the media’s propaganda. They are pissed because Trump exposed them in front of millions.
BTW, anyone else wondering if the CDC fudged the swine flu death stats? IOW, used different criteria to call COD than is being used for WuFlu? To lower the death toll instead of inflate it.

Which is exactly why he will end up going along with President Trump. Set up like a bowling pin. He could have questioned Trump’s power to do it, while keeping the appearance of independence, and giving the appearance of keeping his options open. Well, actually, he couldn’t do that. Trump knows and he said it a week or say previous, I will work with all the governors to discuss a smoothe reopening according to their situation, they are closer and on the front lines in each of their states and know more of what is needed to do this. He’s ruffling the arrogant Cuomo’s feathers and he fell for it
