NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A 102-year-old woman who was diagnosed with the coronavirus defied the odds and is now recovering.
At 102 years old, Sophie Avouris, of Yonkers, has seen a lot in her life, entering this world in 1918 at the start of the Spanish flu.
“She survived it, thank goodness,” her daughter, Effie Strouthides, said.
Strouthides says back in March, doctors at a Manhattan nursing home and rehab facility called to tell her Avouris, who was recovering at the facility from hip surgery, tested positive for COVID-19.
“And we were thinking at 102 years old, at high risk, she might not make it,” Strouthides said.
Because the facility was on lockdown, Strouthides called her mom to have a conversation that she thought would be the last.
“Once or twice I managed to let her know how much I loved her and she told me how much she loved me,” she said.
According to the CDC, 8 out of 10 deaths reported in the U.S. have been adults who are 65 and older.
Dr. Taimur Mirza oversaw Avouris’ care and says her prognosis initially was not good.
“Her course in the beginning, it was a little bit rough. For a while there, she required some oxygen, then we started her on the combination of the hydroxychloroquine and the azithromycin,” Mirza said.

BTW, when India (main source of HGQ) said they wouldn't be exporting, Trump just secured a deal for many millions of those pills with the Prime Minister. Pres. Trump will go down in history as saving thousands of American lives. Dr. Fauci will be seen as wrong at every stage of COVID-19.
The CDC will go down as another bureaucratic failure. I keep asking, what the hell do they do if not preparing for an epidemic or pandemic with physical resources (gloves, masks, ventilators, etc.)? Oh right, after looking up the CDC website, it's obvious they are about their meetings, seminars, conferences, and even their own museum. WTF?

“Why don’t we let this wash over the country?” Trump asked, according to two people familiar with his comments, a question other administration officials say he has raised repeatedly in the Oval Office.
Fauci initially seemed confused by the term “wash over” but became alarmed once he understood what Trump was asking.

It sprang up after some of the doctors grew frustrated with the “voodoo” included in the larger meetings, such as Trump’s hydroxychloroquine push, one senior administration official said. Health officials, including those at the FDA, have been routinely distracted by requests from the White House, even as experts argue that the top priorities should be a vaccine and a drug that is ready by the fall.
In their working group, the physician have spent time discussing how to moderate Trump’s public message on the anti-malaria drug. And they also view their smaller meetings as better for the scientifically driven policy debates that are sometimes hard to have in the official task force gatherings...
On Friday, Fauci expressed caution in an interview on CNN about reoping the country too soon: “I would want to see a clear indication that you are very, very clearly and strongly going in the right direction, because the one thing you don’t want to do is, you don’t want to get out there prematurely and then wind up back in the same situation,” he said.

Zinc is what actually stops the virus replicase, once it has attached to an ACE2 receptor and deposited its RNA strand into a cell.
There are peer-reviewed articles showing this from the original SARS epidemic.
Don't get me wrong, Hydroxychloroquine is extremely important. Intercellular zinc levels need to be increased in infected cells. Hydroxychloroquine acts as a "zinc ionophore", which means in creates a "gateway" into the cell that zinc can pass through. Otherwise, it's very difficult for zinc to get absorbed in.
If a patient is just given Hydroxychloroquine alone (or with Azithromycin) then its like have a "gateway" with nothing to pass through. Many people are normally deficient in zinc to begin with.
We all need to be careful to quote the true therapeutic solution for COVID-19 - zinc. Then we can add the method to get zinc into the cell - Hydroxychloroquine.
By the way, the natural supplement 'Quercetin' is also a zinc ionophore. It's hard to absorb, so supplements usually combine it with things like Bromelain to help.

I know that smarmy prick hates Trump, but with all decades of using HCQ for malaria, lupus, and arthritis, this punk claims the above? Does he know that aspirin can kill people? Wonder if he knows how many people die every year from dihydrogen monoxide? Someone should ask him in real time on his show. Never happen, because his guests don't even know what it is.
There are billions of dollars to be made on an effective treatment for COVID-19, including research, formulation, production, and testing. Don't forget the legalization, administration and regulation costs, too - millions or billions just for the bureaucracy alone. The company (and the country) that develop the first readily-available, safe and effective treatment will be rich beyond measure.
Trump has shut down this free buffet by advancing a drug that already exists. HCV is cheap, plentiful, and easy to produce. Its patent has already run out so generic forms are available. Production is geared up and running worldwide. Doctors have prescribed it for decades, admittedly for other afflictions, but proper dosage and side effects are well-known. Since it's already in use, we can skip most of the trials, including animal studies, and start relieving some suffering immediately. A vaccine's a dream, but with herd immunity and effective HCV treatment the country can be back to almost normal well before election time.
Now you see why so many are so dead-set against HCV - it's ruining their chances to get rich, and helping Trump at the same time.

I think they’ve actually recovered the spanish flu virus from cadavers of victims, and it IS an influenza virus ... and if i remember correctly what has medical professionals freaked out about another killer flu virus coming along like that one is that they can’t figure out exactly what makes the spanish flu virus such a killer by looking at its structure and RNA genome ...
How is it that we are ahead of the curve with what stops COVID-19 at various stages? Almost every day I read about a patient being on the verge of death, but who fully recover after being given this drug and Zinc, and AZ if a bacterial infection.
I can't believe this therapy is being willfully ignored. What? They need years of study for a decades old proven safe drug and a common mineral that the body needs anyway for those who are deficient?
