Gov. Andrew Cuomo denied Saturday that New York City schools will be closed for the rest of the year because of the coronavirus, hours after Mayor Bill de Blasio said they would.

“There’s been no decision on schools,” Cuomo said in Albany at his daily coronavirus briefing.

Cuomo said of de Blasio: “He didn’t close them and he can’t open them.”

I just said in another post that as bad as Cuomo is, he is nothing compared to de Blasio. They are both terrible and evil. But, cuomo does not want a disastrous State economy on his record in 4 years when he runs for president.

there is already talks about getting restaurants going again. Not by de Blasio but by Cuomo, possibly in May.

De Blasio would have everything shut down until 2021.

There is always a lesser of two evils.

I live here and in this case Cuomo is it.

I also have stated numerous times that I’ve driven to many places and have not had any issues. And I’ve even spoken with police a few times while I was on the road and they didn’t ask me any questions

Oh please....half the kids don't want to be there to start with. Look at Rochester NY.....with its 50% graduation rate. It's absurd.

And please note....The Mayor left the playgrounds open so certain groups could play basketball. She got caught eventually, closed the playgrounds and even took down the hoops.

And while you're thinking about it...Time to get rid of the Regents exams peculiar to only one state....NY

In other words, Coumo told Comrade Bill and Bill did his best Schumer imitation and ran to the first camera he could find.

I assume the powerful NY Teachers Union will of course expect all teachers are paid 100%?

All government “workers” are being paid 100%.

It’s them against us.

If you follow NY politics closely, although the corrupt media won’t advertise it, its clear Cuomo and De Blasio do not like each other. Cuomo doesn’t like being upstaged by anyone else in NY State with a bully pulpit (and only the Mayor of NY has one) and in particular, seems to often have to slap-down De Blasio

Yet we in KS have had ALL our public (and one would presume private) schools shut down since mid March, by orders of Comrade Laura Kelly!

In KS we have virtually NO public transportation to infect us by being subject to turnstiles, handbars, etc. yet subways in most large deep blue cities (read east coast masses of humanity) are still up and running day and night, while every Commie mayor, governor and any commie member of the politburo threatens those who have never, ever been told not to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, including King George!!!

Time to shut this nonsense down! Deep blue areas, close if you must but flyover country, it’s Independence Day!

The mayor serves as the chief executive officer of the city, and with the assistance of four deputy mayors, presides over many departments, offices, commissions and boards. The mayor may create, modify or abolish bureaus, divisions or positions within the city government. The mayor, who may be elected to serve a maximum of two four-year terms, is responsible for the budget and appoints and removes the heads of city agencies and other non-elected officials.

This comes out of the New York State handbook:

https://www1.nyc.gov/office-of-the-mayor/news/178-20/mayor-de-blasio-nypd-prepare-enforce-new-guidelines

No where in there does it say the mayor can act to shut down facilities within the city. All he can do is react to the governor’s determinations. So this time he misspoke or heard something that wasn’t said. Not real bright when you open up the pie hole like this. He doesn’t have that kind of authority. And it makes the government of the state look stupid all the way to the governor’s office. (What a surprise)
