I'm a High-Risk Person, and I Object to the Coronavirus Panic

One of the most unforgettable moments in the movie Braveheart takes place after William Wallace has been betrayed, captured by his enemy Edward Longshanks, and condemned to death by torture. His lover Princess Isabelle visits him in prison and begs Wallace to confess and pledge his allegiance to King Edward, saying, "You will die. It will be awful." Wallace responds, "Every man dies. Not every man truly lives."

This should not be news to you — we're all going to die. The only question is whether we will die soon or sometime later. From the moment of your birth, the mortal clock began to tick, and so began the number of your days. If we live in constant fear of death, we will die in miserable loneliness.

The late great Michael Crichton became famous for writing novels like Jurassic Park, The Terminal Man, The Andromeda Strain, and Westworld, books that blended his ability to integrate his understanding of leading-edge medical and technological advances produced by scientific research into a spell-binding plot for a thrilling novel. In 2004, Crichton had his novel State of Fear published. The suspense-thriller portrayed "climate change" alarmists as criminals trying to induce panic among the general public in order to manipulate and control the behavior of billions of people for profit.

Critics attacked the book because they correctly recognized that Crichton had eviscerated the popular "global warming" movement two years before Al Gore starred in An Inconvenient Truth and five years prior to the Climategate scandal that exposed an apparent conspiracy to hide the decline in global temperatures.

I know a lady in her late 90’s who thinks the hysteria is a bunch of nonsense. She is not about to point the finger at anyone and say, “You don’t love me because you want to get on with your life.” Or, “You have to close America down to keep me from getting sick.” Can you imagine a “founding mother” like Abigail Adams saying anything like that?

If I survive into the fall IO will b e 80. I am diabetic, have substantial heart problems, am overweight, and in a geneeally weakened state. My spirit is strong and I am active running a small retail business.
IOW I am a prime candidate for Covid. I bitteely resent our magnificent economy being shut down to save a few old farts ready to die.
Surely there are less draconian measures than destroying our nation yo keep me and my generation relatively safe. This madness must end.

My contention is a universal lock down does not make anyone at high risk safer. Those at high risk should self quarantine for the the rest: GET YOUR A$$E$ back to WORK NOW!

I have, rather slowly, arrived at this position myself. I’m over 60, no risk issues other than age. But after having observed this now for for these past 4 weeks or so, I now believe this course is the wrong path.

Let those who fear this virus or who are dealing with specific risk factors like diabetes continue to practice social distancing, if they so wish. Let as many as can do so work from home. Use basic personal protection and follow extra diligent hygiene practices. But bring life back...let the country work and people live, we are accomplishing nothing here but slowing a spread that is going to occur anyway while wasting the times of our lives. It is better to live until you die than merely exist in fear.

#MeToo. Killing the future to protect the past is what we’re doing now. I was shopping yesterday at a Lowe’s (the store was empty) and the young clerk was hysterical and told me to my face I was risking my life to be there. It reminded me of a saying a friend told me years ago, “when the stupid get frightened, watch out”.

Ditto. This panic infuriates me. Have we lost all reason to let two bureaucratic doctors lead this nation around by the nose? The food bank lines in San Antonio are depressing and totally avoidable. Can no one see that the emperors have no clothes?

Why are grocery store staff allowed to work? They don’t seem to be getting sick. Where’s the survey and tests to verify this?

What did Rudy Golbert have to endure to get well? He’s the Utah Jazz player who mocked it, then became NBA case 1, leading to the first shutdown in America.

Hmmm... just realized the NBA is ALIGNED WITH CHINA and was the first big shutdown! Coincidence or cause? In any case this pro-China stance is enough reason to never again watch the NBA (for those who haven’t already done so).

All well and good - but what about your wife?

If you get the virus and give it to her - what then? That makes it a bit harder.

Doesn’t need to be said but I like you because you are re looking at the data and making your own decisions on how to take care of yourself.

I’m 70 and theoretically in the high risk group. As I witness the general panic, some observations are unavoidable: 1) An obviously inordinate fear of death is clear evidence of the US being a post-Christian nation (Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.), 2) 100 years of K - college education has succeeded in grooming our people to be slaves. Indeed most in the US literally beg for it - even a significant portion of our community at Free Republic., and 3) Words have lost their meaning (result of point 2) to the point that almost everyone seems to confuse prudence with cowardice.

I pray that we remember these words of William Pitt the Younger - “Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.” as free men and women, not as slaves.

“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom”

Apropos.

Reasons for hope: We elected Trump, the reason for hope being that he’s outside the system, and the other reason is that the world is not as enslaved historically as it’s been before. Also, historically speaking, the world has a higher standard of living.

Also, I think the communications revolution has worked against enslavement.

Absolutely!!
I an over 60 with many health issues. I would much rather die free than be enslaved by fear.

I tend to be a hermit bbut from time to time I nrrd to get out of the house for a bit. During the early part of the month, I have a lot I need to do and I enjoy myself a lot. Truth is, if my income was better, I’d be out a lot more.

Obviously the deep state wants to keep people in hiding during an election year. I do hope the Trump voters get out there enmasse.

Re: "I'm a High-Risk Person, and I Object to the Coronavirus Panic"

I agree.

Based on my age, I am high risk.

Full disclosure, I am also very healthy and very fit, so I have less to worry about than the average old man.

Bottom Line...

Federal and state governments should not be allowed to bankrupt hundreds of millions of LOW RISK Americans to protect my life.

I have lived a long time. I'll take my chances.

Re-open America.

TODAY!

I agree. IMO, as long as the person and the business take precautions, I don't see why anyone tested negative for CoVID-19, can't go back to work. And if you have a risk factor, it's up to you to stay home!

High risk too and am sick of the panic. I would worry about it more if we didn’t have all of the tornadoes we have here in eastern SC now.

I objurgate the flu stampede, A panic we do not really need. To cameras the pols beat a path. Leaving economic ruin in the aftermath. They claim a cause where there is not, Or, if there is, act the despot.
