In a message to employees Friday, aircraft manufacturer Boeing said it planned to resume operations on a limited basis, possibly as soon as Monday, according to reports.

The company plans to recall about 2,500 employees to work at some of its sites in Washington state, where coronavirus mitigation efforts have been among the most successful in the nation.

“There will be new policies and procedures for social distancing and work area cleaning,” the Boeing message read, accordiing to The Seattle Times. “If you are able to support continued production, please reach out to your manager.”

Boeing plans to provide returning workers with personal protective equipment, such as face masks, and enact social distancing measures at its work sites, such as floor markings and staggered work times, the Times reported.

President Trump forming council to focus on how to safely, effectively re-open economyVideo The president of a union that represents Boeing employees welcomed the move “as long as Boeing can provide a safe workplace,” the Times reported.

“Social distancing is going to be the toughest part,” Jon Holden, president of the International Association of Machinists union District 751, told the newspaper.

Holden said workers concerned about risks to family members will have the option of going on unemployment instead.

“That will be up to the individual,” he said.

Boeing has no choice in this. Airlines around the world have shut down most of their flights, and they’d love to have an excuse to cancel their orders for new Boeing aircraft if they aren’t delivered on time.

Wow, these guys are brilliant aren’t they? /sarcasm

Use some friggin common sense. The entire construction industry should never have been shut down. They’re not cubical-bound office workers. Why shut down parks where people are spread thin, certainly more so than shoppers buying toilet paper. @

Common sense isn’t common anymore on this planet.

The close early was initially due to the fact that the panic buying F*&%ed the supply chain and deliveries were showing up at hours when they were never expected or not at all. t gave the workers more alone time to quickly re-stock without interference.

Amen. Can’t have a few builders working on a project or a park where you can be outside and have plenty of distance, but 500 people at WalMart is not a problem.

Not just Boeing. Many others need to start heading back to work.

For how much longer will the public tolerate not being able to get a haircut?

I usually shop in the wee hours of the morning. Like 2 or 3AM. BECAUSE there is no one there! I have never been in the way of re-stockers. There was no need to stay on a limited schedule. None of this makes sense. How are 2 shoppers at 1AM or 2AM or 3AM causing a problem?

We are all getting a haircut right now.

Yes were are but it's been more than a month since I had a haircut and I don't want to go much longer without one.

Flu season is essentially over in the southern states and will soon be over in the northern states.

Time for the barbers and hairstylists to go back to work.

Test the barbers first.

Test the barbers once per week and the barbers can test each customer for fever before letting them sit in the waiting area.

but 500 people at WalMart is not a problem.

Or 45 people at the local liquor store ("deemed essential").

Or a packed Abortion mill ("deemed essential").

I actually think that is a good idea. Masks and gloves should help ease the stress.
