Hundreds of thousands of retail workers across the US have been furloughed from their jobs until further notice as their employers take drastic measures to cut costs during the coronavirus crisis.
The retail sector has been hit hard over the past few weeks and months, and for conflicting reasons. While grocery chains and food delivery companies are scrambling to meet surging demand, other retail businesses deemed "nonessential" by the government have been forced to shutter stores and are now finding that a large portion of their business has dried up.
Store closures across the country are taking their toll on the people who previously worked in these now-shuttered locations and who now find themselves without a paycheck.

I want these governors and local governments to pay for all the lifes they are ruined. Karma is a bitch. Wishful thinking i know.
This is not gonna end well.
Give it a few more weeks.
One more week is about all I’d push it, I hope President Trump set a worst case scenario and is going to reconsider opening early. I know, it’s also going to be up to the Governors too...
One of the most dangerous and effective aspects of the ChiCom bio-weapon Covid-19 is that it sets Americans against each other, instead of against the ChiCom launchers of the bio-weapon.
A key attribute of this ChiCom bio-weapon is that its immediate effects do not rise to the level of a Pearl Harbor or 9-11, inviting immediate massive retaliation. Instead, it slowly weakens its enemy targets via several paths:
1. the disease itself, overburdening medical systems across Europe, resulting in
2. the social-distance economic shutdown and subsequent depression, and
3. now Americans are set bitterly against each other instead of against China, which launched the bio-weapon in the first place. And the EU is collapsing.
From the ChiCom POV, its win-win-win.
My wife was furloughed from a major department store. Our health insurance runs out at the end of May.
BI = BS
I see you have cheered up a little
Sargent: “Do you want a dishonorable discharge??”
Woody Allen: “y-yes sir, either that or a furlough”
I doubt anyone at the Smithsonian souvenir shop has been laid off (unless they lease their space to a private business).

The only reason I am optomistic this might turn around faster than we think, as I drive around, it seems all the industrial businesses are still going. It seems the biggest impact is to retail, so there is still a large segment of our workforce getting paid.
Maybe they should learn to code...or how to clean bedpans
It’s not entirely up to the governors. Trump can force their hand with an executive order or a memo to the AG. Something like “It is ILLEGAL under the Constitution of the United States to restrict gathering, movement, or to mandate closure of business as a result of the virus”. If governors keep businesses closed then send in the NATIONAL GUARD to make sure they are allowed to re-open.
Eisenhower did the same thing in the 50s to open the schools. This is a civil rights issue much the same. Life and LIBERTY shall not be restricted.
My sister in-law just got hire back to Kohl’s to work for their online drive up orders.
They were having problems getting some people to come back to work. I bet she gets another pay raise for coming back to work.
You can still buy stuff from Kohl’s online then pick up at store.
Sixteen million new claims over the past three weeks? Thank you, Captain Obvious.
However, the EU collapsing is a good thing...same with the globalist one-world crapola.
Kroger is hiring like crazy and they are a union shop...
Health insurance pretty much Day 1 for full-timers and family.
Have the leftists ripped up the constitution in Washington DC as yet?
It’s good we off shored all of our factories so these dead beats will never become over paid bolt turners. /sarcasm.
