Responsibility for combating the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. lies mainly with governors and not President Trump, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley says.
"The federal government can provide crucial resources, but the burden is on the governor and her team to distribute them. No two states are alike, and blanket approaches won’t work," Haley, who previously served as a Republican governor of South Carolina, wrote in a New York Times op-ed piece Wednesday.
She seemed to oppose Dr. Anthony Fauci’s endorsement last week of a nationwide stay-at-home order, which came as a handful of the nation's governors have refused to issue one.

The federal government is doing everything in it’s power to
back you up, and here you are telling everyone you’re in
charge.
Who is providing funding for citizens, small business, and

Ms Haley is correct.
To make sweeping decisions that effect one’s entire state requires confidence and courage. Some Governors are somewhat deficient of that kind of confidence at the beginning of a pandemic.
They would prefer the president make big decisions in the beginning and protect their own reputations while being an “outraged” Armchair Quarterback at Halftime.
She is correct.
Having sat in a Governor’s seat, she know well of which she speaks.

Too many current governors are of the Blanco/Nagin mindset of “fedgov must do my job for me”.
I get a kick out of you folks saying she’s right.
Yep, she’s right and has no money at all to address the
issues that face her constituents right now.
While I’m not comfortable with the bail-out Trump has
signed, where do you folks think her state would be if
he hadn’t signed it?
She has options today to address the problems in her state
that she would NEVER have had without the federal government
standing behind her with all sorts of programs she can
pass on to her state’s people.
So yes, sure we can look at states rights and support the
idea she’s trying to convey, but in terms of this situation
she hasn’t a single prayer other than prayer to react to
what is happening in her state and the 49 others plus the
District of Colombia right now.

Our governor here in The People's Republik of Connecticut is deficient of confidence (and knowledge) 100% of the time.

President Trump and Nikki Haley very obviously understand the concept of FEDERALISM. It’s also very obvious that far too many in this country do not. Including, some on this site.
The Governors of your states are the effective equivalent of the President of your state. With the requisite responsibility for the care of your state.
The Feds responsibility in the case of a natural disaster is simply to lend support. It is not to be totally responsible for your state in place of your state gov’t.
If you vote for ineptness in your state you live with the ineptness you voted for. Period. End of discussion.
The President has no responsibility for your votes/decisions as to who you chose to put into office in your state. You must accept and live with it.

She is correct. As national martial law has not been imposed, it is up to the governors of each state to respond to the virus as best they see fit, with the support of the Federal government. This is what is actually happening right now - and is why governors’ actions in NV and MI have massively backfired on them, while others are not effected. The Federal government’s job in this crisis, without martial law being declared, is to prevent more of the disease from being imported, to provide resources at the local and state level while using Federal resources to come up with treatments/cures vaccines, and provide support as required and available for the state and local authorities. It is on the states themselves to organize the response in their state and impose such regulations as they see fit. The Feds don’t do that, nor should they.
It appears Ms. Haley is more familiar with the Constitution and the delegation of powers than you are. She is correct on this.
Yup. States have the primary responsibility for the health and welfare for their state. That’s why we have state governors. Conditions vary state by state. What’s good for Alaska might be wrong fro Mississippi. Besides, what do dc bureaucrats know about what’s happening outside the beltway?
She is no longer Governor.
She is trying to create a bond with the GOP base with an eye toward the future. Not going to help.
