No, Sen. Rubio, journalists are not ‘giddy’ at coronavirus news | Column
Tampa Bay Times ^ | April 7 2020 | By Tom Jones

Posted on 04/08/2020 6:49:34 AM PDT by rintintin

A little more than a week ago, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted how some in the media couldn’t contain their “glee & delight” in reporting that the U.S. has had more coronavirus cases than China. He called it “beyond being grotesque, it’s bad journalism.”

“”Some in our media can’t contain their glee & delight in reporting that the U.S. has more #CoronaVirus cases than #China

“”Beyond being grotesque,its bad journalism

“”We have NO IDEA how many cases China really has but without any doubt its significantly more than why they admit to

— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) March 29, 2020””

Then, over the weekend, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, responding to a tweet from a Washington Post reporter about unemployment in the U.S., tweeted, “The press HATED that, three months ago, we had the lowest African-American & Hispanic unemployment ever recorded. Now that we’re in the midst of a global pandemic—which originated in Wuhan, not the Oval Office — too many in the press are giddy with glee.”

“”The press HATED that, three months ago, we had the lowest African-American & Hispanic unemployment ever recorded. Now that we’re in the midst of a global pandemic—which originated in Wuhan, not the Oval Office—too many in the press are giddy with glee. #RootForAmerica https://t.co/JGb5mgHanT

— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) April 5, 2020””

Actually, what’s grotesque is suggesting that anyone in the media is giddy with glee or delight about anything to do with the coronavirus.

Media can dish it but not take it

And yes the do seem morbidly giddy.

They also love reporting on the unemployment rates - as if those rates are some kind of a surprise. When government tells people to stay Hime and not go to work, unemployment naturally goes up, it’s not a surprise. It’s like if the news media had a big story on the formal closing of a highway - and then ran shocked stories day after day that “ there’s no tragic on the highway!”

The media can no longer hide their contempt for America, but they apparently still want to try.

They just hate being called out on it and want it stopped. I disagree. They should be called out on it for every article so the few people who haven’t noticed that they have become the enemies of the people do notice it. And punish them for it. And force them to change their attitude if they want to stay in business.

Even liberals are starting to see the media for what it is.
I talked with one from CA yesterday who was convinced that we were going to see The Great Depression II.
In 5 min I convinced her that this was all just media hype.

And aren’t they the group that does either Politifact or Factcheck? My Lefty friends love to cite those ‘facts/factchecking results’ while claiming they are unbiased.

The Media is also praying that hydroxychloroquine does not work.
They would rather see tens of thousands of dead Americans than President Trump re-elected.

They are giddy with glee and delight over covid-19 hurting jobs and the economy, which they think hurts Trump.

I think it’s not so much that “the media is giddy with glee or delight about anything to do with the coronavirus;” rather, it’s that they are so excited — so filled with assumed power — that their panicporn-stlye of reporting has given them near total control over how much of the country thinks and acts ... that and because they’re in the late stages of the much more dibilitating condition of TDS and just cannot help themselves anymore.

They just hate being called out on it and want it stopped.

It's a curious epidemic.

Many elements of the media are dying out like newspapers. Online places are laying off 'reporters' and they're being told to 'learn to code.' Those who are sidelined wish they were 'in the game.'

Those who remain on the job continue with their bias; if they're well-known then they will get their teeth kicked in by fact-checking Deplorables and other people who have a keyboard or Twitter account and aren't afraid to use them. When that happens, they whine and complain.

The fact is, this is the first global news story where the reporters are being fact-checked/ridiculed/bashed/mocked/treated like every other person on the planet in real time. And the fact of the matter is, the general person has Excel and a browser and reading comprehension: we don't need to be told the story, because we are way ahead of them on our own.

As George Carlin said, if you don't like the weather...move!

Sure they are. One, it gives them something to babble on about instead of empty cat-in-a-tree or Orange Man Bad stories. Two, it lets them act like saviors of the common man, a role they cherish even as they betray it. And three, it provides them with a lot more Orange Man Bad ammunition, even though that's a theme that's been beat to death.

So yes, they're absolutely giddy with the thought that a plague has beset mankind. Look how it elevates journalists in importance (at least in their own minds). Now, maybe someone beside Jim Acosta's mom will actually watch CNN again. SInce the Great TP Shortage, the New YOrk TImes has been selling briskly.

Trump’s Lost Months Are Killing Us. Here’s How to Make Them Politically Fatal for Him. (Barf Alert)

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3832441/posts (Yahoo News - daily Beast- April 4,2020 | Jonathan Alter)

... we must tar Trump with his lack of preparedness the way “the emails” were stuck to Hillary Clinton in 2016, “the hostages” to Jimmy Carter in 1980, “the pardon” to Gerald Ford in 1976, and “Hoovervilles” to Herbert Hoover in 1932.

So what should the frame be? I’m partial to a headline in the March 28 New York Times: “The Lost Month: How a Failure to Test Blinded the U.S. to Covid-19.” The article detailed how testing screw-ups (by a still-unnamed pharmaceutical company) and bureaucratic bumbling led the government to lose the critical weeks it needed to get on top of testing the way China, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Germany and other nations have...

Of course they are going to deny it

they have no problems dividing people kissing ass pandering to one group or another

So to think that they aren’t giddy about this opportunity to bash Trump and the Republicans Is absolutely real
