LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Following weeks of pay for employees during the coronavirus pandemic, Subaru of Indiana Automotive announced Tuesday it will end.

According to the company, beginning April 13, all associates deemed non-essential will not be paid. As of now, the Lafayette plant is closed until at least April 17. Production has been halted since March 23.

"While SIA has been pleased to provide full pay for three weeks for all associates, including most temporary production associates, it's no longer sustainable while production is suspended amid health concerns, declining market demand and supply chain issues," the company said in a memo.

6,250 jobs according to Wikipedia. I wonder how many are “essential”?

Laid off workers filing for unemployment are getting $600/WEEK EXTRA added from federal to their state payment. In many cases that will be higher check than their job.

Covid-19 testing has to become ubiquitous.

Large employers need to be able to test their own employees, on site - in minutes.

Forget about June.

None of these companies expect to be selling many cars for a long time.

IDK about that, I was furloughed last Friday and applied for UI. They wanted to know when I last worked...

Officially it was last Friday, but due to I was sick, and had to online a telehealth appt. was quarantined for the prior 7 days (feeling better just a ‘lil beat up)

The rats at the UI office are holding up any payment to me until I can show them that I wasn’t working before the furlough.

The UI office goes right to busy signal every time I call. I’m getting pissed off greatly. No GD fault of my own.

(BTW). Mrs Bo is a nurse helping treat the Kung Flu patients in local hospital. That was reason they furloughed me, (risk) I’d being a Kung Flu carrier..... spit.

Point is. Im not hurting for coin, I’m hurting because this has been a cluster—k from the git go. I want to go back to what I love doing. Working and living.....

Our government is broke. These companies big and small are dumping their employees into government assistance.

Yeah the cars will lag a long time especially new production. There is at least a month of inventory that landed at the time of the shutdown and that was at the sell rate of 2019.
So the auto market looks very dismal and those ripples go far and wide. If Trump let’s Dr Doom and Deborah do it again at the end of April I cannot imagine where we will be.

Thank goodness I never had to step inside UnEAmployment office. From 1962 through 1998 I was employed continuously. But my wife who was a nurse was laid off from a hospital which was in the process of closing. I encouraged her to apply for UE benefit, while she looked for a suitable job in another hospital or doctor’s office. She went in there reluctantly, in city of Chicago, all the staff at the UE office was African-American, and my wife was blue eyed blonde. When she came out of that office, she was almost in tears. She was insulted and derided because according to the staff she could find another nurses job SOOOOOO easily.
