Are Anthony Fauci, the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization our best guides through current events? Are we so confident in their opinionsmodels of COVID-19 spread that we are willing to risk whole economies? Is it possible that those authorities not only miscalculate, but see such a small piece of the overall biomedical/social picture that they are creating worse problems -- by shouting “fire” in a crowded world theater?
I have reason to believe that they will: As a postdoctoral fellow at Fauci’s NIAID from 2004-2009, and one of its few theoretical biologists, I found Dr. Fauci to be exceptionally knowledgeable about all aspects of virus biology and immunity. So it is difficult to understand why he and others are promoting models of COVID-19 spread which all but completely ignore the likelihood that most people will have powerful natural resistance against the virus (unless they are quite old, have hypertension, smoke, or have other pre-existing lung or immunological damage).
My guess, judging from historical precedent, is that Dr. Fauci and his colleagues are just plain afraid of what might happen, although we have no real data to make a prediction about what actually will happen. After all, they are human beings, and beings of a particular sort -- namely doctors. Although imagining all hospital beds suddenly filled with coughing people is something that terrifies them beyond belief -- as a few have confided to me -- doctors sometimes underestimate how much care they could provide to patients in their own homes, if it were absolutely necessary to do so.

I am really starting to wonder about this crap. Yes, the virus is bad and people are indeed dying. But, we are not having the numbers of the past virus's, bird, pig, duck, all from China. Claiming that the precautions taken to avoid the consequences of unmitigated spread of the virus are unnecessary because we aren't seeing millions of cases is like claiming that measles vaccine is unnecessary because we don't have millions of measles cases.
Successful prevention of a catastrophe does NOT mean that we didn't need to do anything to prevent it!

This all happened because each politician and leader performed "one upmanship" and "double dog dare you" in an attempt to show the other as incompetent. This is politicians in charge. Leaders were forced to go along with it because the public is gullible, even many here on FR.
Perhaps there was no “catastrophe” to be prevented.
Perhaps the real "catastrophe" is yet to be realized.
Unproven Social Distancing might or might not have been the preventative.
Perhaps there are yet unknown factor or factors.
Autopsies are needed to determine precise causes of death.
Economic impacts remain to be seen.
I refer specifically to induced antibody mediated immunity.
We all have innate immunity that protects against countless microorganisms. We are exposed to countless numbers of microorganisms every day, but most people will never get sick from them unless something unusual happens or they have severely impaired immune systems.
On the other hand, pathogens are infectious because they have ways to bypass the normal innate systems that we have evolved to protect ourselves from microorganisms.
The fact that it infects people demonstrates that Covid-19 has mechanisms that allow it to bypass the innate immune system. Therefore, immunity against Covid-19 depends on an antibody-mediated response—which none of us have because we have not been exposed to it before. As of this morning, only 252,391 people in the entire world are immune to Covid-19. That’s because they recovered from it.
The lame stream media is also responsible for whipping up panic and thus pressuring decision makers to do something anything even if there is no scientific basis for doing this. It’s the same old climate change is going to kill us in 10 years inless we adopt world socialism. Part of the media hype is to use this “crisis” as a reason to excoriate Trump. There is no small glee in the mefia that Trump’s unprecedented economic numbers are down due to the national shutdown. I am certain many in the media would rejoice if this shutdown were to extend into a Depression and thus lessen Trump’s chance for reelection
