Whether the captain was or wasn’t either of those things, it’s just wrong for Sec. Nav. to tell that to the crew. This guy should be fired yesterday.

It seems like a lot of people in positions of great responsibility are getting overwrought and acting unprofessionally.

His crew are idiots who need a lesson on how the military should conduct themselves.

Why is the Def Sec and the Navy Sec scrambling around - covering their asses - and throwing dirt on that Captain?

There’s something rotten (as usual) in the Pentagon. I think THEY effed up and left that crew to suck it regarding COVID 19.

Was the “leak” from the Navy Secretary himself?

Hate on the Captain and crew all you want, but when the Navy says that 44% of the carrier’s 4,800 sailors had been tested for COVID-19 and 1,548 sailors from the crew were moved ashore, then screw the chain of command that DID NOTHING!

I disagree. I've read his whole speech (it's posted in pdf on scribd.com), and he flew there to explain himself because that crew was clearly upset. He went there and spoke very candidly to them. Here is some of it:

"When I first heard you had COVID on here, I was actually planning on being here last Tuesday after I went to see the Mercy off in Los Angeles. So I want you to know that no one at my level has been ignoring the situation here from the very beginning.

I reached out to your CO through my Chief of Staff very, very early on in this crisis. On Sunday I told him that i wanted to come out to the ship and if it would be okay or if it would be too disruptive. I told him that because I wanted to be able to help, if there was anything else he needed as this massive effort was underway to get you guys healthy and clean and safe.

He waved me off. He said he felt like things were under control. He had been concerned a day or so before that things weren't moving quickly-- he still wanted to get more beds-- but he didn't think it was necessary. He also talked to my Chief of Staff and emailed back and forth with him... on Sunday Night, he sent that email...

"It was a betrayal... your shipmates... the ones on shore right now who told me that when Captain Crozier's email made it to the San Francisco Chronicle after working 15 hour days, they were demoralized because they knew what they had been doing for you guys since the 25th of March to get you guys what you need.

"And the other thing you need to understand is, we're in Guam. It's a US territory, but they have their own government and they have their own healthcare problems, and they're scared too... the Governor of Guam stuck her neck out big time with her own population to say that she is willing to open up hotel rooms all over this territory so that sailors from the Roosevelt can go and be safe... when Capt Crozier's letter came out to the public, she had to deal with all her constituents who are saying 'Holy crap, what's happening, we're going to have 5000 people with COVID in our city without proper healthcare...

"(For) nearly 300 other ships in the fleet, your captain's actions had implications for them too. Imagine every other CO also believed the media was a proper channel to air grievances with their Chain of Command under difficult circumstances. We would no longer have a Navy. Not long after that, we would no longer have a country."

The whole pdf can be downloaded off of scribd.com

Idiots, are they?

If YOU have COVID 19 and you and your Captain are left to fend for yourself, then you would be an idiot to “obey orders”.

Former Acting SECNAV is not a very grand title.

I don’t believe SecDef and SecNav are covering their asses; rather, they are restoring order to the crew of a capital ship that was thrown into disarray by the poor judgment and misconduct of its captain. Crozier did a lot of damage by going outside the chain of command, giving his crew the impression that Navy leadership is against them. Now the Navy must prevent a “soft mutiny” by thousands of young products of our society that are presently suffering from the “feels” and need reminding that they are sailors.

Right. The Navy left a carrier to fend for itself. “Screw the task force guys and Fuck the Roosevelt. I’m going home “

Yeah. Sounds pretty stupid doesn’t it?

The fact the people on FR do NOT understand this (and many still won’t) show you that we are in deep crap in this country. So-called conservatives support fascist and socialist solutions to a virus.

The fear mongers are willing to sacrifice the entire country to save themselves. To say it saddens me to see this would be an understatement.

Guilty. I read the headline, had seen some other posts, and reacted, wrongly. Fortunately, no one cares what I think. At least that’s what my wife tells me.

Right. The Navy left a carrier to fend for itself.

That is a completely false statement, and I suggest you read what the crew was told about the statements and actions of their former captain.

"Screw the task force guys and Fuck the Roosevelt. I’m going home."

That statement is an incitement to mutiny and punishable by death. It is something no honorable fighting man would ever make.
