Walmart announced it will limit the number of people inside its stores at the same time during the COVID-19 pandemic.....Starting Saturday, we will limit the number of customers who can be in a store at once. Stores will now allow no more than five customers for each 1,000 square feet at a given time, roughly 20 percent of a stores capacity, according to a release. Store employees will start a line at a single-entry door and will tell customers to go there to queue. They will then be allowed in the store one-by-one, according to the company.
Associates and signage will remind customers of the importance of social distancing while theyre waiting to enter a storeespecially before it opens in the morning, the store wrote.
Customers will be admitted inside one at a time when a store reaches capacity.
Well also institute one-way movement through our aisles next week in a number of our stores, using floor markers and direction from associates. We expect this to help more customers avoid coming into close contact with others as they shop, the Arkansas-based retailer said.
And once customers check out, they will be directed to exit through a different door than they entered, which should help lessen the instances of people closely passing each other, it said.
Target on Thursday announced a similar measure to promote social distancing as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus continues to spread.

My diet has never been worse than the past two weeks; horrible!
I hope you find your Milk Duds; maybe order them online?
Do you have a reference for this? That you will get stopped if you are out walking?
They'll have to CLOSE EVERYTHING before long because people touch food (apples, onions, packages of meat, cereal, etc, etc).. at some point common sense will have to return or we'll be choking ourselves to death!
We just got back. Danged nightmare. Nothing on the shelves. People buying like it was their absolute last chance to ever buy something again. One lady in one of those handicap carts, riding along, had the entire cart full of cokes, pepsi, etc, with them hanging on the side of the cart, stacked to the hilt. Nothing on the cleaning shelves. I got the LAST box of garbage bags!!!! How in the he-LL can people be buying so many danged garbage bags for goodness sakes!!! They are allowing so many people per size of the store, then you get to the grocery aisles and they are packed with 10 or more carts!!! What good did it do to have these rules. They have employees around the aisles directing traffic like cops. The governments are causing a lot of this hysteria. They keep telling us the sky is falling and people are responding like it. People are going freaking crazy. One other grocery store in town had a COP at their door. Only one family member per family allowed in the store. Did not open when the sign said they would open, over an hour late. Small stores are sold out as soon as they put stuff on the shelves. The meat market guy in a small mom and pop store near us told me this morning that meat prices are going to take a BIG jump. His costs are nearly doubling. So, the hysteria, buy before you cannot ever buy again. Places and people going freaking stupid crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, small convenience/liquor stores shouldn’t be forgotten when people need a few items.
Cool. They can all wait in a line and get that virus humming!
Oh please, would you calm down.
You've used the following words in your post:
"DIRE"
"FREAKING WILDFIRE"
"DEEP TROUBLE"
COVID-19 is enough to deal with. People need to go for a walk, breath into a paper bag, something - rather than become emotional blue-lights on FR.
Why would they close?
The governor said last night that everyone was to stay home!!! Home, except for going to the grocery, big box, get supplies to work at home, doctor or hospital. Everyone else was to STAY home. Birmingham is pulling cops from other duties to patrol. To keep people off the streets. She complained that they were doing this because people would not stay home, would not stop being in large groups, out walking, playing ball, running, riding bikes, examples like that she gave. She said law enforcement would be enforcing these restrictions. What does that tell you? You will probably be warned the first time, but if they catch you more than once or twice, etc., you get a ticket, arrested, something like that.
Cheers
The masks should help you navigate a non-police-state Wal-Mart set-up, for Heaven’s sake. But the whole company went Police State. Why don’t they offer masks at the entryway instead?
“Well sh*t. Walmart was one of the few bastions of sanity among all this hysteria.”
This is the real danger and damage brought on by fear mongering. People rush out to hoard supplies causing lines and shortages. Due to the panic buying stores respond by limiting customers’ access and purchasing options. So the panic-induced fear becomes self-fulfilling. Eventually rationing cards may be introduced.
I feel for you. My youngest sister was recently diagnosed with an auto immune disease. She’s already altered her life around limiting exposure to others. She’s been hospitalized twice in the last month due to it though. Luckily COVID19 is pretty limited where she’s at but I’m pretty fearful for here.
Do you live in my small city? It’s been that way here for weeks now. I went to the small local store I shop at most Tuesday and they are finally starting to get some hard goods on the shelves. It’s spotty though. I haven’t seen a paper product anywhere in about a month now.
Exactly. This was a signal that guaranteed people would panic as a result. Actions have consequences.
I think all of the small towns are like that. People are driving around on that cheap gas looking in every store they come to trying to find what they need, desire, want to horde.
That’s great. Hope you got everything on your list.
Agreed. I have learned a lot about some FReepers during this whole thing. Some very good, and some very bad.
I never thought I would see FReepers who hold themselves out as conservatives supporting some of the things they do.
There's also some dismissive attitudes from those that seem to most support a national / entire state shutdown regarding concerns about economic damage.
Thanks. Maybe in a city it is enforceable. In the rural areas I doubt it is.
With the closing of businesses it was only a matter of time before other measures would have to be put in place further limitations and directives within those businesses left open for human nature is seldom cooperative or patient for very long, especially if it disrupts their world.....
..To be expected there are always those who have no patience nor understanding of why things are done as they are, as well those who complain every step of the way... But then there are those who ‘adjust and adapt’ to whatever is thrust upon them, regardless if they like it or not, to protect and care for their families until it all passes.
Additionally everyone has an opinion on how things should be “measured” actions which need to be taken to find the balance.....but this virus and all that surrounds it is new to everyone as well so finding that balance is all the more difficult for the professionals, the people and everyone involved.
When you add in Politics and media ....they will always create confusion and chaos every time.
