Dangerous craft. Ex-GF son went overboard in Houston channel and took every
ounce of strength to survive. Very strong 30+ guy. Sold it asap.
He was warned not to fly in those conditions. He ignored the warning. If he wanted to risk his life ... well, fine. But he was also responsible for the deaths of his wife and sister-in-law. Hubris, plain and simple.
Former CIA director William Colby disappeared in Chesapeake Bay in April of 1996 while taking a canoe ride.
There was some speculation it was suicide.
Others, who knew him better, believed he was killed.
We'll never know.
Yeah, that’s what people think. It’s not the Atlantic.
I grew up on the water from Lynnhaven, the James, Choptank, Rappahannock, Potomac, to Susquehanna. No bayman ever ignores the forecasts or takes the Chesapeake for granted. At least not those that live to a ripe old age.
Three strikes there. It has been very windy and cool this week. If they have been in the water all this time... well, it's not good.
From the picture in the Sun article she had three other children: Two daughters and a second boy about two, now all without a mom.
Prayers for these poor souls.
This time of year the water temperature in the bay near their location is 57o F.
Life jackets would allow them to find the bodies. Sad story
Fortunately, being a Kennedy, she didn't have to make a living at that intersection. Because I have no idea how one would.
That’s the UK Sun, not the Baltimore Sun.

Absolute insanity...
I’ve lived on the bay’s waterfront (about 10-miles north of Herring Bay) since 1989 and no one in their right mind should go canoeing there at this time of year...
Yes, canoes are for streams, rivers, and lakes. Not open water in high winds.
Let’s hope they stayed with the canoe and will be found soon.
Uh oh...
“Isnt the water kind of cold to be out canoeing?”
That’s why you stay in the boat.
I do not think he was instrument rated. In poor visibility conditions, most likely succumbed to vertigo / disorientation and wound up in the ocean. But yes, you're right, we'll never know for certain.
Only someone with no knowledge or experience with boats would attempt such a foolish thing. The exact opposite of what is required in such an endeavor. However canoe in winds over 10 mph is not going to move up wind no matter who is paddling. And the chop in 30 knot winds us not an easy thing for a canoe.
Give it a rest.
