Keep the healthy Marines.
Keep the healthy nuke team members.
Keep a small, healthy port and starboard watch and get all others off the ship.
It would work.

I feel like he needed some sort of reprimand for letting it get to where it did, although some here have said it is hard to stop this kind of thing.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
Look at his service record ... hopscotch ... then upward movement during Bobo ... but still , how do you get that ship without a clear command pathway?

Its pathetic that weve reached the point where we have one of our aircraft carrier commanders feeling the call to virtue signal with his leaking to the media. Relieve him from command ASAP!

Lots of criticism for the CO. But another Freeper said on an earlier thread that PACOM ordered the ship to a port call in Vietnam in March despite the CO’s objections, well into the period where that should have seemed incredibly stupid. Sailors usually catch enough stuff going into foreign ports. The outcome here should have been obvious. But sometimes the Flags gotta have their fun I guess (shades of Admiral Boorda?).

To: scottinoc
Even IF he wasn’t the leaker. His letter alone was reason enough to decide he was unfit to command an aircraft carrier.
His actions likely caused the whole outbreak. His letter only whined about needing to get all the crew ashore and take the ship out of action. He had NO requests for men or supplies to get the ship back into action.
95% of his letter were his crackpot opinions on testing, wanting 4000 separate CDC worthy rooms (on Guam), getting the crew ashore, etc.
We have 11 fleet carriers. There is someone else out there who can take over and remember his main concern is keeping that ship fully ready.
Good riddance.

assume that the pension of an O-6 with 25 years in is pretty good. You assume correctly, sir! He will be double-dipping very shortly and rewarded for his complaint.

And he could have also requested any needed extra sailors be rushed to Guam to fill out the crew and keep the ship ready.
His number one concern was not keeping the carrier available.

I guess you can’t read, “if...” Telling.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
From the article:
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Captain Brett Crozier was being relieved not because he wrote the letter and sent it up through the chain of command but because the Navy believes he leaked it to the media. If he leaked, he deserves everything the Navy throws at him. I watch and wait.
