Dr. Anthony S. Fauci says that the United States will not come out of lockdown until there are no “new cases” of coronavirus, prompting some to question precisely how long that will be.
During yesterday’s White House briefing, Fauci, who has become the face of America’s response to the coronavirus, was asked by a reporter whether social distancing measures will be imposed until there is a drug or vaccine to treat COVID-19.
“I think if we get to the part of the curve that Dr. Birx showed yesterday when it goes down to essentially no new cases, no new deaths at a period of time. I think it makes sense that you will have to relax social distancing,” Fauci said.

“The one thing we hopefully would have in place, and I believe we will have in place, is a much more robust system to be able to identify someone who was infected, isolate them and then do contact tracing,” he added.

I did not get that interpretation of what he said at all.
I think he knows Trump is sticking with this until the end of April and then pivoting to the economy. He was talking about getting us over to the downside of the curve.
No new cases anywhere won’t occur for months and Trump is not going to go along with that.
He doesn’t set policy, fortunately. Today Michigan’s Governor wanted to extend the emergency to mid June. The Republican legislature is giving that a hard pass so far.

I’m no Flu-Bro, I understand the concept of temporarily reducing the rate of virus transmission to mitigate the overloading of our health-care system. But that benefit has to be weighed against the damage to our economy and way of life. Fauci can GF himself if he thinks Americans are going to stay under house arrest until he deems it safe for us to open our front doors.
Our country did not become great by being obsessively risk-averse.
