The numbers: The number of Americans who applied for unemployment benefits last week soared by a record 6.6 million, bringing the increase in new jobless claims in the last two weeks of March to 10 million as the all-out effort to slow the coronavirus slammed the economy.
Countless businesses across the country have been forced to close or scale back hours, throwing masses of people out of work and triggering an unprecedented back-to-back surge in initial jobless claims. New claims are likely keep climbing in the next few weeks as the damage unfolds.

Yikes, even for me, who is not easily shocked...that’s too damn many. We can’t last much beyond April 30th and have ANY chance of recovering with the next few years. But maybe that was the plan along with the Chinese, Obama’s fundamental changes they wanted. 30% unemployment, breakdown in social order, waiting for the next Fuehrer.....how it happens folks
The media is going to make this out to be a bad economy due to Trump and not because China is an ass-backwards country and can’t stop hoisting ugly viruses on the world.
The folks cannot live on checks from the government. Money has to come from productivity. The country is in deep financial doodoo right now, and will be until several months after everyone is back to work.
I’ve been quietly suggesting to my work mates that because we are in an office where we work the implementation of projects, and most of the projects are not “required” to be implemented, we should see some of them being cancelled and folks laid off.
Yesterday one of my projects was put on hold for a year. The first one. I expect many to follow, mainly because income is also drying up due to this lockdown.
I just started receiving SS, so I won’t be eligible for unemployment, but they are doing the $1200 a month thing which, comically, is surprisingly close to the maximum unemployment benefit in KY. :)
Wow. He’s such a small piece of the puzzle. You give him too much credit.
States did the shut downs, not the feds.
They did it base on what happened in China and that stupid report fro that “prestigious” institute.
And a bunch of other reasons.
And like I said, some states are just starting to implement 30 day shutdown.

This is actually international but, yeah, the great depression is coming and is now unavoidable, even if the lockdown ended tomorrow.

AFTER all of this is said and done that’s gotta be tackled.
What is needed is for FAMILIES to go back to the old days where mom and pop were taken care of by the kids.
Cause everything’s gonna have to be cut.
NOTHING can be off the table.
Those 535 kings and queens need to be replaced (most of them) with people who will do real slashing.
It’s just that nobody or few can win reelection after cutting almost anything anymore.

Now that a bunch of people are out of work, now FR has switched over to “OMG, this isnt that big of a deal!!!!!!”
And that includes a few of those serial posters of those articles. Many of the rest seemed to have vanished.

Trump said he wants the country open by Easter, April 12. Then we see Fauci on CNN or MSDNC (I forget which), boasting about he walked into the Oval Office and changed Trump's mind on that.
Look, Fauci is a deep state, Hilary Clinton operative, working hard to get President Trump Defeated in November.
