Thanks for your high opinion of SS recipients. By the way my hubs and I do pay income taxes. Matter of fact we don’t have drug money let alone enough for extra. Now booze, does wine count?

Lol! The virus is whacking mostly the elderly and you are complaining about them getting a few bucks!

So no earned income tax credit for them?

How is that fair? [to either side]

It certainly is unless the amount received qualifies as such. Mine does not.

Sorry about your situation, I really am...

But I don’t think you see my point. It doesn’t help the future of this country’s economic well being to use an excuse to break the bank and throw us into a tailspin. While it might help seniors that are broke temporarily, you’re helping to impoverish your grand kids long term. Would you vote for something like that? I’d rather just eat dog food than do that.

"Did I miss the part where their incomes were disrupted? This seems like nothing more than extra booze and drug money."

Do you think all senior citizens drink booze and do drugs?

Perhaps you missed the point that it is the elderly that are getting whacked by the virus.

Cuz SS is not taxable income.
= = =

It is.

Some small part if it is not.

“No hardship there.”

Of course there us no hardship with trying to survive a disease that whacks mainly the elderly.

My MIL’s will go right to the State of MA for nursing home repayment.

So, no drinks for her.

SS is considered taxable income if you make over 18k or so a year. They changed the laws a while back to make it so.

They both work or did until ordered to stop. Both have families along with rent and all the other normal household bills. Yeah, they could use some help once their savings are used up.

If your gross income...from all sources...is over a certain amount it's taxable. If it's under that amount it's completely untaxable.

Some of my social security is taxable. I have to do the worksheet each year to figure out how much that is. Between that and my pension, I pay over $8,000 in taxes each year. I get a little back at the end of the year but that’s only because they take out more than they need to. I don’t have any deductions, or any other claims to make on my tax return. It’s just me. Up until the last tax cut, I was lucky if I got $600 back at the end of the year.
