The White House will not reopen the Obamacare exchanges to allow uninsured Americans to purchase health care coverage during the coronavirus pandemic, NBC News has confirmed.
Last month, President Donald Trump signaled that he was considering a special enrollment period that would reopen federal insurance exchanges, which shuttered in December after the end of the annual open enrollment period.
"It's something we're talking to a lot of people about. We'll see what happens," Trump said in March.
The news that the Obamacare will not be reopened was first reported by Politico.
In March, the Affordable Care Act turned 10 years old and currently enjoys its highest popularity ever, according to NBC News. When the health care law was passed in 2010, 36 percent thought it was a "good idea"; today, 42 percent do.
While the federal exchanges will remain shuttered, individual states like New York and California have reopened their state exchanges for special enrollment periods to address the unprecedented public health crisis.

Unemployed people are going to be in no position to pay for individual health insurance coverage.
You get a tax credit if you put a low enough ‘estimate’ for yearly salary that’ll cover it.
A person who loses his or her job is ALREADY allowed to buy individual coverage outside the open enrollment period. A job loss is one of the "life change events" that qualifies someone to start coverage at any time.
The President is very smart to do this. The only reason to open the ObamaCare exchanges would be to let people who were previously uninsured voluntarily buy insurance just because they've gotten sick.

Tried that when I was unemployed few years ago.
Made me pay it all back the next year when filing taxes.
So, people that are struggling now/unemployed will get a credit but once start working again, they’ll recalculate the credit & make you pay it back based on current earnings.

How the hell could those insurance companies suddenly gear up for those insurance policies? No flipping way! They have a lot on their plate due to this danmed virus!
So when some liberal says “Trump won’t let people buy insurance” say “This is not a good time. Insurance companies are busy with other things, and with few people actually working, bammycare would crash in 2 weeks.”
bammycare transfers money from those who work to those who don’t. Millions out of work. This should be clear even to the most thick headed liberal.
Cobra costs for a family are over 2 thousand a month.
Unemployed people cannot afford this.
Medicaid will need a bailout soon as millions of people are going to start using it who never have before.
Yes, mine too. They'd cover about 1 year of my health insurance premiums post-ObamaCare!
