Trump backs infrastructure bill as next phase of coronavirus relief
The Hill ^ | 3/31/20 | Brett Samuels

President Trump on Tuesday encouraged Congress to pass a $2 trillion infrastructure bill as the next piece of legislation to boost the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"With interest rates for the United States being at ZERO, this is the time to do our decades long awaited Infrastructure Bill," Trump tweeted.

"It should be VERY BIG & BOLD, Two Trillion Dollars, and be focused solely on jobs and rebuilding the once great infrastructure of our Country!"

Trump last week signed into law a $2 trillion economic relief package targeting small businesses and workers impacted by the fallout of the virus. Lawmakers are already eyeing a fourth stimulus package to try and keep the economy afloat, and House Democrats have zeroed in on major investments in infrastructure.

Democrats have suggested an infrastructure bill could include updates to public drinking water systems and hospital capacity, as well as upgrades to rural broadband in light of increased teleworking and online schooling during the pandemic. The upshot would include additional jobs at a time when unemployment filings are skyrocketing into the millions, Democrats argue.

Some in the party have also signaled a phase four stimulus bill could include other measures left out of earlier packages, such as expanded paid leave for workers and parents forced to stay at home during the outbreak and increased worker protections.

Trump's backing could push Republicans to support such a measure, though GOP leaders have been hesitant to move forward with legislation that might include certain Democratic priorities they argue are unrelated to combating the virus.

I we could incur enough of that debt none of us would ever have to work again.

Our airports are fine.

No, they're empty :>) But other than that I don't disagree.

you are right, if we get to the point where airports never reopen and we don’t need roads and bridges then we don’t need to fix or upgrade them. I remain hopeful that this isn’t the zombie apocolypse.... this time.

She can wish all she wants. If money is appropriated, the Trump Administration decides whether to spend it and who gets it.

Please, please, don’t get in a hurry to sign more stimulus bills. Give the first three a chance to work.
Please!!!!

“...the Trump Administration decides whether to spend it and who gets it....”

That is what I always believed. However, the impeachment was all about spending appropriated money the way Pelosi wanted.

The goal should be to maximize jobs at the lowest possible cost, not just throwing good money at problems. Like improving the inter state in Wyoming, as an example. Building hospital expansions. Widening roads. Ect.

How about we give Pelosi some tid bits if we can direct a few billion to building the wall? Say no funds for wall, then no round four?

Like The Kennedy Center?

A very statist solution. I knew that the first “stimulus” wouldn’t be the last. The public’s expectations have been raised. Why not a stimulus every year? Or month? Send me a check every month. That’ll be just great!

Problem is that it will be worth nothing, as the dollar loses its buying power due to the increased number of dollars in circulation.

“Its still debt and has to be financed.

No its not. These new dollars are equity not debt. They are issued at zero percent interest and carry no debt. They will go into circulation to pay off old debt dollars. The old debt dollars will be retired from circulation so the new dollars do not create inflation either.

Look for Trump to keep bringing more and more of these stimulus packages forward because he is planning a debt equity swap that will hopefully wipe out our national debt before he leaves office.

The new dollars going into circulation are equity dollars. They carry no debt and will be replacing debt dollars that are now in circulation. They will not create inflation.

It has been appropriated but it hasn’t been spent. The First Lady, Melania Trump is on the Board of Trustees of the Kennedy Center so I think there’s a good chance they’ll get the $25 million.

Hey take $30 million off for the Kennedy center. Already saving money! . This isn’t winning. This is pathetic. I would scape any bill coming from the house until you take control of it, and replace the Turtle in the Senate with someone who has balls to stand up to a skeleton like Nancy Pelosi.

These new dollars are equity not debt.

They will be Treasury notes and bills. They'll have to be paid off eventually.

Impossible.
