With millions of people suddenly out of work and rent due at the first of the month, some tenants are vowing to go on a rent strike until the coronavirus pandemic subsides.
New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and St. Louis are among many cities that have temporarily banned evictions, but advocates for the strike are demanding that rent payments be waived, not delayed, for those in need during the crisis. The rent strike idea has taken root in parts of North America and as far away as London.

True enough. But then theres this: ...property management companies and landlords have employees to pay, utility bills and other costs.
Rock, meet hard place. All thanks to the twin evils of Chinese communism and globalization.
What are you talking about? Whos panicking? This is a story about people who are out of work. No need for anyone to go crazy. Its just a piece of news.
I hope these landlords and property management companies do the right thing. A lot of people are going to need a break. This whole thing has got to end sooner than May.
> guess you missed the hysteria on FR the passed month <
Well, yeah, youve got a point there. There have been quite a few articles filled with maybe this could happen statements lately. And thats not really surprising given all the uncertainty out there.
Anyway, Ive tried to be careful and post only hard-fact articles, like this one. Out of work people are having a hard time paying rent. A simple fact. Again, due to the ChiComs and globalization.
fair enough.
And the insanity continues......
Not many landlords can afford rent strikes. They pay rent to the state, there's mortgages, workers, repairs, fees, fines, lawyers... Bills have to be paid to run a building. Tenant rent is used for that. Tenants have no idea how much the State takes from landlords.
Trump gave tenant the ability to get a loan. If the tenants prove that they have paid rent and utilities with those loans, they do not have to pay them back. They lose nothing.
Meanwhile landlords have to get loans and pay it back. Trump gave no help to landlords.
I am hearing from many who are doing the right thing, but what remains to be seen and time will tell is the right thing now a permanent thing. Figuring a family of 4 basically getting unemployment plus the stimulus stipend
unemployment 600x4+2400
stipend 1200
2kids 1000
4600 the 1st month, 2400 there after ea month. From what we have been TOLD about layout this money is to be used for your bills RENT, food, utilities, mortgages. So what am I missing here. I own not rentals by the way
Bkmrk.
How do you expect the landlords are going to be able to pay their mortgages if they “do the right thing” and waive their tenants’ rent payments?
” So what am I missing here. I own not rentals by the way”
What you’re missing is the $600 or more a month they would be getting if they were out of work.
Everybody should have plenty to pay rent!
* $600 a WEEK unemployment.
Count me out on this. My landlords are a family with a mortgage payment on this place.
I wasn’t raised like that.
If everything was free this wouldn’t be a problem. And I mean everything! /s
I know a landlord who didn’t get his rent for 3 months. He removed the front door, threw it in his truck and drove away.
Bunch of freeloaders.
I bet every one of them are berniebots, bidenbois, or aoc acolytes.
