NY Governor Andrew Cuomo has asked for 30,000 ventilators to deal with crisis Coronavirus, which causes respiratory difficulties, increased demand for the kit But medical experts say there aren't enough medics qualified to operate them As it stands there are 7,713 respiratory specialists licensed in NY for ventilators Coronavirus symptoms: what are they and should you see a doctor?

Even if New York Governor Andrew Cuomo gets the 30,000 ventilators he has asked for, finding enough skilled workers to operate them all is the real challenge, medical experts say.

Coronavirus, which causes respiratory complications, has placed a colossal strain on New York hospitals with more than 59,000 cases, including 965 deaths, and increased demand for ventilators.

However, despite Cuomo saying that the machines are 'what missiles were to WWII' there are 7,713 respiratory specialists in his state licensed to operate ventilators.

Anthony Everidge, a member of the American Association of Respiratory Care, told the New York Post: 'I read that Gov. Cuomo said that ventilators are to coronavirus what missiles were to WWII. While I am sure this is true, you would not have grabbed a front-line soldier off the battlefield, put him in the fighter cockpit and expect him to fly the plane, launch the missiles and defeat the enemy.

Quite the anti-union screed, whether it was intended that way or not.

"This is the place that went through 9/11. Why don’t they have enough places to serve sick people or skilled professsionals?"

Too busy wasting tax dollars on building a film studio in Syracuse to the tune of $15 million, only to have the company walk away free and clear from the deal, and the State ending up selling the new building for a dollar. That's just one of Cuomo's failed projects. There's plenty more of them, along with the conviction of his top aide on corruption, and bribery charges.

I’ve never seen that quote before but it’s a good one.

Certainly some jobs really require deep training and knowledge — I pick two: Brain Surgeon and Bridge Engineer. But I’ve been working in technical fields for a long time, and most High School students could do a lot of work tolerably well with just some training. The personality matters — find a person who wants to learn and you’re 90% of the way there.

I suspect that the technicians they need could be available very quickly. They won’t be perfect, and they might lose some patients that they didn’t have to lose. But getting 30,000 ventilators on line seems like a good solution even if not a perfect solution.

The really BIG question is after this mess is called done; across the U.S., how many hospital patients admitted with CV actually needed and used a ventilator. I’m guessing it will be a wide span between available and actually used for CV patients with the available number being on the high end.

Why would any respiratory therapist take a job offer in NY? They’d have to be a loony leftist...and, then, it would be a maybe proposition.

From what I have read Germany used a good deal of “highly supervised” prison labor. Of course, some people insist that never happened. I don’t “know”.

When I was a surgical intern making $20,000 a year I supervised nurses i the ICU. They made twice what I did. We used to cross out the “ORders” from “Doctor’s Orders” and pencil in “Doctor’s Suggestions”. LOL. I knew two nurses who were incredible. They started their own business and only worked shifts on call as consultants. The demanded and got $75 an hour. In 1983. Really good people can demand anything when your balls are in a vice.

They closed a bunch of hospitals in NYC...bet he does not use the ten thousand in the stock pile..

All he wants is federal dollars to help his state...if the fed give him ten thousand..it is ten thousand he does not have to buy

Run by the city and state I guess????

NYC Health + Hospitals is the largest public health care system in the United States. We provide essential inpatient, outpatient, and home-based services to more than one million New Yorkers every year in more than 70 locations across the city’s five boroughs.

Our 11 acute care hospitals provide top-ranked trauma care, dozens of inpatient specialties, and mental health services, making communities healthy through a robust network of hospital-based primary care services for children and adults. Our hospitals have earned numerous special designations for quality and culturally responsive care including LGBTQ Healthcare Equity Leader, Baby Friendly, Safe Sleep, and top ranks by U.S. News and World Report.

Our five post-acute/long-term care facilities have earned the highest five and four star ratings by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare for their excellent long-term care, skilled nursing care, and rehabilitation services.

" OR, Cuomo’s distribution system is so screwed up that he’s playing CYA to explain away how they got caught with ventilators in a warehouse no one knew about."

In order not to be called a "hoarder" today he is using the word "Stockpiling".

Today we find out cuomo has a warehouse in New Jersey! (Does chris christie know about this?) No wonder cuomo didn't want NYC to be quarantined. His truckers would have had to show papers!

cuoma wants UPstate NY nurses to come to NYC to help. So who's going to take care of the people up here?

Then again, why should our nurses get infected in NYC? One Rensellear county hospital said that they will refuse NYC patients. Good for them!

Truly cuomo cares nothing about us, Upstaters or the rest of the Country.

"From what I have read Germany used a good deal of “highly supervised” prison labor."

For building bombs, and doing the dirty work probably, but in their factories that produced their planes, tanks, etc., it was all engineers...no regular laborers. It's one of the reasons it took them longer to produce them. They lagged behind the U.S. and England in production...as did Japan.

I downloaded this 8 part series from a UK torrent site last year.

War Factories

It's an excellent program, and explains why the country that produces the most war machines during war time, is the country that will come out on top. One of the episodes was about Russia, and how we provided a lot of the stuff they used during the war. We sent them pre-fabbed factories, along with American engineers to help them build them, and get them operating. When Hitler invaded Russia, Stalin ordered all the factories in those areas disassembled, placed on trains, and moved further into the country to be reassembled. They unloaded the building parts onto a field, and worked from there to put it all back together again. We sent them an awful lot of locomotive engines, and rail cars, along with other stuff. Stalin halted production of all farm machinery, never thinking that people would have to eat during that time, and he never thought to produce trucks, or other types of vehicles to haul military stuff in.

He's sent most of the illegals out of NY City, and distributed them to the rest of the State. They should all be sent back to him immediately.
