The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of two anti-malaria drugs to treat patients infected by the new coronavirus.
On Sunday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said in a statement that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine could be prescribed to teens and adults with COVID-19 "as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible," after the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization. (EUA) That marked the first EUA for a drug related to COVID-19 in the U.S., according to the statement.
Currently, there are no specific drugs for COVID-19 which, as shown in the Statista graph below (accurate as of March 26), has sickened over half a million people. According to Johns Hopkins University, over 720,000 cases have been confirmed, more than 34,000 people have died, and over 152,000 have recovered since the pandemic started in China late last year.

> there are absolute contraindications to using quinines. Ones you cant know by looking at the patient.
OK, but I got it on request from my doctor in 1986 before I traveled to Ecuador. I am a normal healthy person, so YMMV, but I think that can be said for everything and everyone. Maybe you can explain that?
Also IIRC in a prior discussion it was claimed that every US soldier who went to the jungle in the Vietnam War was given (ordered to take?) HCQ. Maybe you can explain that?
As someone else said, it is possible to overdose on H2O. Does that make H2O a poison? I suppose it depends on the definition of the word ‘poison.’ Whatever.
> Following Trump’s direction, the FDA approved a “Compassionate Use” exemption for hydroxychloroquine to be used to treat COVID-19 patients on March 19. 10 days later, that was expanded to “emergency use authorization”, effectively allowing doctors to prescribe the drug to COVID-19 patients as they see fit.
Aha! Thanks!
Soldiers with G6PD Def have to be given a different antimalarial.
> Around here there has already been a run on zinc of/in all forms in the stores.
It is also not uncommonly found in all-in-one vitamin tablets. Also, it is relatively easy and painless to obtain online.

OK, good to know.
(checking my birthdate and nervously comparing it with my lottery number)
Good news !! Also, with Trump’s announcement that there will be an important press conference on Tuesday I am hoping this means VERY good news. This is when the first week of HC use will have been evaluated in the 1,100 person study in New York. My guess is they are already experiencing significant improvement in patients. Is is the reason why NY posted such a lower death rate yesterday? I certainly hope so.
Well bless their lil bureaucratic heart. See, who said two trillion would not fix this hoax
paging the litlle s*it communist Stalinist mafia bait...socalled governor of Nevada. I hope you get it and f*ing DIE, you piece of human fertilizer when they refuse to give it to you and you are gasping your last
Citizens of MI to Gov Whitmer:
‘So...what’s your answer gonna be, bitch?”
Hopefully, very quickly, this formal authorization will be expanded to allow distribution to physicians prescribing to patients who test positive but who are not (yet) sick enough to require hospitalization.

Strongly agree.
Must mean there is more reason to think it has some efficacy...
Note: PRESIDENT TRUMP LEAD with the hope of Hydrochloroquine before any nation, any world leader, any government agency.
FDA...welcome to the party, pal.
Per the article, at least 70 million doses of hydroxychloroquine should now be in the US pipeline, which should be sufficient to treat all current and at-risk patients, with global supply undoubtedly continuing to ramp.
If this protocol is as effective as early reports suggest, we should start seeing dramatic jumps in the recovery statistics by the end of this week and this whole crisis could well be over by Easter--exactly as Trump forecast. A nasty flu is unfortunate but nothing to freak out about. The doomsday scenarios the media has been hyping for weeks now of millions dead and dying is what has us all effectively under house arrest, which is causing real and serious economic harm, and undoubtedly contributing to unnecessary death in its own right.
You might even begin to believe that the US President has access to information that pundits don't have. Imagine that.

No, they won’t actually start giving the drug to patients until this week sometime.

Consider the source why something that happened 10 days ago is now being reported, News-Sqweek!
“The governors of Michigan and Nevada on suicide watch.”
those moronic fascists SHOULD be on recall watch ...
Especially so if people viewed the turnaround as an answer to prayer instead of "the power of man to control his own destiny."
In other words, if the turnaround illuminated the true meaning of Easter.
no “approval” was ever actually needed for individual doctors to prescribe this drug for any medical purpose ... ALL FDA-approved drugs can be prescribed for any medical purpose without further approval by anyone, and it’s done all the time: it’s called off-label use, and a YUGE percentage of ALL prescriptions are for off-label use ...

I won’t be holding my breath that NBC prick Fraud Todd will be redirecting that “Blood on his Hands” question to Cuomo or Deblasio.
