Trump says Prince Harry, Meghan Markle must pay for their own security if they move to US

President Trump said Sunday that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle must pay for their own security if they move to the U.S.

The president tweeted Sunday in response to reports that the prince and his wife had moved to Los Angeles. He started by saying he is a “great friend and admirer” of the Queen and the U.K.

“It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada,” he posted. “Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”

The couple announced earlier this year that they would step back from their royal family roles and earned the support of Queen Elizabeth II. They had said they would split their time between North America and the U.K.

A report from the Evening Standard in January said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed the country fund half of the $1.3 million in estimated security costs, but he has said the conversations are tentative.

But reports circulated last week that the royal couple and their son had moved to Los Angeles, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Why on earth would security paid by anyone other than themselves even be an issue? Who would think otherwise? WOW - we just don’t have the right mind set, I guess!

Meghan made a huge mistake by announcing publicly several months ago that she would only live in Canada and not in the United States as long as Donald Trump was President.

She is clearly a lefty, with TDS, a purple pimpernel akin to the AOC set, full of jingoistic pronouncements designed to esconce herself into the myopic self centered pseudo charity of her ilk, while intending to make millions by marketing her marriage into the Royal family.

Indeed why should America pay for their security. They no longer have the capacity of representing the Head of State of the UK. They are just two private citizens who are obviously on the take. It will not end well for either of them unless they just get jobs and go to work as commoners, the very highest social class one can achieve in the United States of America. Our nation separated from the inbred systems of nobility in 1776, and there is no going back.

How can Prince Harry just waltz into the USA and decide to settle here without any official permission?

All members of the Royal Family, other than the Queen, have passports.

The same goes for the baby, Archie. The child was born in the UK of a British father and American mother. The child is not an American citizen and is a member of the British Royal family meaning its a UK citizen.

Incorrect, the child is automatically a dual citizen by virtue of his or her birth in the UK to a British and American parent.

As for the mother being American, is she still a citizen of the USA?

Yes. In November 2019, a friend of the duchess' told the Mail Online: "Meghan is not yet a British citizen. It might seem extraordinary, given that she's been married to the Queen's grandson for 18 months, but she accepts that it's a slow process."

Didn't she swear allegiance to the UK and the monarchy in order to receive the title of Duchess?

I've never heard of any such requirement. She didn't ask for the title.

Did she have to renounce her American citizenship to to become a part of the royal family and become a part of "governing elite" of that country?

No.

And she handed him two hundred dollars for a twenty five dollar fare (hey, inflation) and said “Harry, keep the change.”

As usual, fake news.

Harry, Meghan: 'No Plans to Ask U.S. for Help'

Trump seems to have gotten the impression the the royals would ask the U.S. to pay for their security from an article in the Daily Mail. The article, which is largely based on claims attributed to a “royal source,” says the couple will have to “plead” with the president for protection. In essence, Trump’s tweet was a response to rumors that the couple would ask for his help, rather than an actual request.

Later on Sunday, the royal couple replied to those rumors saying, in a statement to Chris Ship, royal correspondent for British television network ITV, that “privately funded security arrangements have been made” and that Meghan and Harry have “no plans” to get assistance from the U.S.

There were 5 different threads and more than 300 comments posted here on that piece of gossip.

Seriously, who’d want to bother them?

I'll take a guess: Radical elements within the IRA

I was saying to a buddy that Harry probably has a better chance of landing roles than Meghan does. With his background as a war vet, helicopter pilot, and royal (I know) into the bargain, someone just might cast him in an action movie or several. Think Audie Murphy. But if he really can act, the novelty could turn into a career!
