Well, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is probably the most hated man in Washington D.C. right now. He threatened to derail passage of the Wuhan coronavirus relief bill that sailed through the Senate on a 96-0 vote. Its a $2 trillion package that admittedly has some bad stuff in it, but American businesses and workers need relief as the nation fights this Wuhan coronavirus outbreak thats infected over 85,000 people and killed at least 1,200. States have adopted severe measures to stop the spread, instituting bans of mass gatherings of more than 10 people, closing non-essential businesses for a least a month or more, and shuttering the schools. The markets have tanked. It was imperative that the government compile this rescue package to help workers, stabilize the markets, and ensure that the flow of credit remains unrestricted.
Yet, Massie threatened to gum up the works unless there was a recorded vote, which would have put the entire House at risk of exposure to this disease. D.C., Virginia, and Maryland are virtually on lockdown, with the District recently shuttering non-essential businesses until the end of April. Massies antics forced scores of lawmakers to fly back in case he succeeded in his effort. This move had some calling for Massie to be expelled from the House.

He was right in Principle but clueless about Politics.
Instead of the Democrats being blamed for delaying what was “perceived” as helping average American for nearly a week to promote their Leftist Agenda, the spotlight moves to the GOP.
Perception is everything which is unfortunate. The “crisis” continues to erode common sense, the Rule of Law and the blame will end up on POTUS Trump if it continues, like it or not. The DNC Media, the Rat Party and the clueless GOP will see to that if given enough time.
POTUS Trump going after this guy was a bad move IMHO. He should have said nothing or at least defended the guy for his courage in defending our Constitution.
Just keep postponing payment.
Right!
Which shows the error in post #7.
The only proper form of federal relief is a rebate of federal tax or impost previously paid by the recipient.
Nancy stalled the bill about a day to study it.
Not long enough in my opinion.
Yup! It was passing anyway.
Because she wanted to add MORE to it.
Except there is no record of who stood where. I did hear some “nays” during the voice vote.
Just as many of us thought. One lone man of principle in the entire US government. Well done, Congressman Massie.
But for all those who absolutely had to send us $1200 of money borrowed from our great-grandchildren: We want ALL of our share of that 2.5 Trillion, which would a little more than $8,000 for each taxpayer. Many businesses and government agencies that will get millions pay no taxes. We pay the tax burden and as Nancy Pelosi has said in the past, we get crumbs. And Congress giving themselves a fat raise after the lousy job theyve done is rubbing salt in our wounds.
The Constitution? That silly thing?
I heard him on Rush's show with the guy who was filling in. He explained that no quorum was even present in the House and he objected on those grounds. Leaders continued to put up a fight until he read them the actual rules. Only then did they drag enough members to DC for a quorum.
At that point they denied his request for a recorded vote and went by voice only, so there will be no paper trail of any votes. They shall remain a convenient mystery.
I guess we found out who’s essential.
Trump and others made their position very clear. More happened than just the “vote.”
Yup. Now, depending on your own perceived approval or rejection of the bill, your rep can easily say “I voted for it to save you.” or “No way did I vote for it.” No proof. Just like the founders intended right?
yes
Massie is a masshole, but Kerry is impressive!
This bill actually DID originate in the House as did Obamacare, despite all the silly braying you hear from ignorant conspiracy theorists who say otherwise.
I for one appreciate Massie. I hate unanimous legislation
