Officials are working out final details in plans to begin clinical trials next week for a malaria drug combination that appears to hold some promise for confronting the coronavirus pandemic.
New York state Health Department officials are making arrangements to determine what patients at which hospitals will be allowed to participate in trials with hydroxychloroquine, Zithromax and chloroquine, a senior official at the department with knowledge of the plan told ABC News. The bulk of the patients are expected to be in the New York City metro area because the region has the biggest cluster of cases.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced earlier this week that he was eager to get the trials started. By Tuesday, the drugs were in New York and officials were working to identify who could participate.

I don’t get it. Imagine the backlash if next week, they start trials, and it turns out it is actually a miracle, and it stops 90% of deaths.
How do you then face the hundreds of families whose loved ones died between the time Trump noted this was a possible cure, and the time you managed to start the trial?

Same here. I was hoping we’d start seeing results maybe as early as this weekend. Very frustrating.
Latest data post from the French MD who popularized the drug shows 1 death out of 701 treated with at least 3 days of hydroxychloroquine±azithromycin. So it’s not quite perfect.

The fastest way to give these statistical idiots the answer they need is to infect them with the virus and give them the placebo. Then and only then they will realize they are only doing what they are asking others do, DIE!
When the infliction involves DEATH, statistics are of only value to the idiots who are still living, they mean nothing to the dead!
When the result is DEATH the only intelligent action is to throw the kitchen sink at it and play with the numbers and your pud later.

Why all the waiting? They’ve determined that the treatments in question are safe, so even if not fully effective they won’t do harm.
The politicians will not do that. They have armed bodyguards to keep angry relatives of the deceased from approaching them. They don't actually care about a few dead peasants.
And they don't really want a cure right now anyway, at last not one available to the peasantry. The pandemic offers too many opportunities for politicians to seize and consolidate totalitarian powers. It is in their best interests to let it run on a little longer.
But if they get sick, you can bet that they will use every possible treatment to save themselves.

I asked the question on a FR thread yesterday about what did Governor Cuomo’s order actually mean in practice. And here it is apparently. This is criminal. People should be arrested over this. Laura Ingraham has a doctor on from Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan who says 100 people had the virus and were treated with Hydroxychloroquine and Zithromycin and they had no deaths. And yet people are dying at hospitals all over NYC. It seems that the point of the order was to stop doctors from administering the drugs under compassionate care guidelines. Outrageous, and no-one in the press that I’ve seen has asked Cuomo that question.
