State Senate Republicans quitting in droves as NY eyes eternal one-party rule
NY Post ^ | March 26 2020 | Post Editorial Board

Will the last Republican left in New York’s state Senate please turn out the lights?

It’s not quite that bad … yet. But the Senate GOP leader, John Flanagan, this week announced that he’s not seeking re-election, the ninth member of his caucus to hang it up — and a tenth, Cathy Young, quit last year.

It was only in the 2018 election that the Republicans fully lost control of the chamber, though they had increasingly relied on alliances with renegade and/or “independent” Democrats, plus heavy gerrymandering.

Sounds like they are throwing in the towel just as the enemy is on the ropes!

Maybe they just don’t want to be stuck with the mess the “enemy” is leaving. As bad as the New York State deficit and pension funding deficiencies were before, imagine what it will be now following the State’s shutdown of its economy and the State’s pensions stock market losses.

I wouldn’t want to deal with that rubble either.

At state level, the Democrats are not on the ropes. They are strong and they are using gerrymandering to stay in power.

I don’t blame Republicans for quitting, because what can they do when the majority of state power is held by New York city?

Things have to get very bad to change this.

Authoritarian one party rule works better with New Yawkers.

Just remember how ny rnc threw NY district 23 and supported the Dem candidate a couple years back.
I won’t forget that backstab they did.

Remember, there’s a LOT of East Coast Republicans that want to be in the permanent minority, where they can raise funds but never have to do anything. “If ooooooonly we had a little more money, we might have been able to stop {Legislation X}. Donate now!” And then, even with this bigger warchest, why, they still fail at their stated goal.

Succeeding and doing their job isn’t their actual goal. Getting invites to parties, seats in the country club and increasing their personal fortunes at the expense of the rubes that send them money *is*.

At one time, on Long Island, to get a job you had to state which party you belonged to, on your voting card.

There are many one party states in our country. They’re not all blue.

Have they ever thought about coming out and telling people the truth?
