The late C&W crooner Don Williams. He enlisted and showed up in Japan at our Army Security Agency base about a year after I got there. He had his guitar, and dreamed of making it to the Grand Ole Opry, which he eventually did. He won lots of awards, and even had a big following in Britain and elsewhere. He always remained a regular guy. He was buds with Burt Reynolds, odly enough.

A lot of singers were in the business.
Country -Willie Nelson Air Force, Johnny Cash Air Force, Kris Kristofferson Army, George Strait Army, Gene Autry Air Force, George Jones Marines, Conway Twitty Army, Roger Miller Army, Jerry Reid Army, Hank Thompson Navy.
Jazz - Tony Bennett Army, Dean Martin Army, Sammy Davis Army.
Rock and Hip Hop - Jerry Garcia Army, Shaggy Marines, MC Hammer Navy. Hendrix - Army
There are a lot more, but this is a start. A lot of performers were in WW II and Korea in particular.

Thanks for the extended information.
Interesting things we find out about musicians we would never have known.
