I am an ER MD in New Orleans. Class of 98. Every one of my colleagues have now seen several hundred Covid 19 patients and this is what I think I know.

"Clinical course is predictable. 2-11 days after exposure (day 5 on average) flu like symptoms start. Common are fever, headache, dry cough, myalgias(back pain), nausea without vomiting, abdominal discomfort with some diarrhea, loss of smell, anorexia, fatigue.

Day 5 of symptoms- increased SOB, and bilateral viral pneumonia from direct viral damage to lung parenchyma.

Day 10- Cytokine storm leading to acute ARDS and multiorgan failure. You can literally watch it happen in a matter of hours.

81% mild symptoms, 14% severe symptoms requiring hospitalization, 5% critical."

There were 1172 total confirmed cases in the State of Louisiana on 3-23-2020. I picked that date since that would be the most recent day this doctor would likely be talking about. As of today 3-25-2020 there were 491 cases that are in hospitals and 163 on ventilators. I guess when he talks about several hundred cases each he is including ones he sent home that weren’t confirmed but he is guessing they were positive?

Never mind Mom.

Some others have stepped up to the plate. I just didn’t read far enough into the thread.

God bless and still praying for you and all on the front lines.

Azithromycin shuts down mRNA, leaves DNA replication intact. Virus uses mRNA to prompt a cells machinery to replicate the viral proteins. The antibiotic in this case throws a wrench into the cell’s works to stop the hijack from completion to produce more virus.

More than 25% of the patients who he sees in the ER have multilobar pneumonia? One would presume that he’s admitting patients with pneumonia, too. Which would mean that the percentage of pneumonia patients he sees exceeds 25% of his daily encounters.

Unless his ER has a respiratory hall where he is exclusively stationed (which seems doubtful, since it must be a relatively small hospital if there are only 20-some-odd ICU beds), I don’t buy it.

Why won’t the cardiologist treat?

The readers because there were only a couple of obscure medical terms, at least in the OP and everyone just yelled at Buster for not putting it in layman’s terms.

Post #1 was a little difficult to read but by that point, the seriousness was obvious.

If he translated and got something wrong, he would have been piled on too.

It’s just curmudgeon central around here sometimes and some people just can’t be pleased, especially in these times.

My point is there ARE no numbers, because we have not done widespread testing of apparently healthy individuals.

However, judging (extrapolating is the scientific term) from the fact that a good percentage of those who (so far) HAVE been tested even though they don’t have ANY symptoms, it appears that the infection rate is widespread. THIS IS A GOOD THING, because the vast majority have NO symptoms.

As another example, say we did NOT count everybody who gets the Flu - we only counted people who showed up at the emergency room with it, and then we also counted those who died. The mortality rate would be 5-10%! But we KNOW that tens of millions get the Flu every year and take over-the-counter meds, or just muddle through.

THIS IS HYPE CITY. If it were REAL, there would be tens of thousands dead already.

Morgue filling up? That’s because there are no funerals allowed. If we stopped emptying morgues, even without COVID-19 they would fill up because you cannot bury people....

PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND THE POLITICIANS ARE GRABBING POWER DUE TO THEY REALIZE THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT.

Thank you.

I will look into elderberry and cytokine storm...I am a person to whom science concepts don’t come easy, but I am trying to get up to spead.

Please excuse me. There was certainly some confusion about this article. Texas Eagle had asked for a simplified translation of the medical terminology, and someone else had done the first part so I provided some more. You see the italicised part is from the post and the other is my try to say what it means.

The article does sound a little fishy, as others on the thread have noticed, so take it with a grain of salt.
Your question is also on my mind if you would like to direct it to BusterDog, the OP, that would be good.

“Why won’t the cardiologist treat?”

I have no idea, but from the way I read it, they don’t think it would be good for the patient.

If every other word must be looked up in a dictionary the writer needs to be shot. It is called “snob writing”, you know, doctor speak.

Ditto! Occam’s Razor.

Topic slide and maybe a morning chuckle FRiend!

I finished an online political survey just now, that came into my email inbox earlier this morning, that had some dialog boxes asking for one’s thoughts, in general or about a technical issue, at the very end of the survey. I love getting these things! Here’s my reply.

Me-

Yes. The cursor click function for the multiple choice question in Question # 6, requires using the enter button of a key pad, rather than right clicking with a mouse.

The “clever wording” of the multiple question- Question # ?, asking about societal things, using buzz words like “justice” and “compassion”, smells STRONGLY like something a progressive millennial social justice warrior snowflake would compose. spit

I consider the DNC my mortal enemy and if there is ever a hot civil war, may they be driven out into the sea, for they are not my countrymen. They have waged a low grade war on the country, culture and values, over AT LEAST, the last fifty years, rotting the minds of the youth by a systematic brainwashing, using the public education systems, the media, and all three compromised branches of government, pushing their perversion into every aspect of our society, nearly completing the communist’s long term step by step plans in how to take over the country. Worse yet, they have literally destroyed generations of humans with the most vile mechanism possible, the barbaric practice of abortion. A human sacrifice to the God of convenience- Moloch. Burn in hell you sons of bitches.

Please! Please! Please! Let a leftist read this today, as I drink in their liberal tears. Thank you so much for not listening to me in the previous survey, where I expressed my desire not to hear from this organization ever again, or something to that effect.

I look forward to more time together- hopefully, in the not too distant future.

Signed,

A boomer!

Several drugs have been withdrawn from the U.S. market or have received black box warnings due to their potential to cause QT interval prolongation that leads to fatal ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death.

Sure. But haven't we known about that side effect for a long time? It's nothing new.

The punchline, or the key phrase in this guys post, is Plaquenil...doesn't appear to be a savior of any kind in our patient population.

The only question is whether the poster is actually posting a real account, or did the poster make up the entire post in order that he could add his Plaquenil Bad punchline.
