I am an ER MD in New Orleans. Class of 98. Every one of my colleagues have now seen several hundred Covid 19 patients and this is what I think I know.

"Clinical course is predictable. 2-11 days after exposure (day 5 on average) flu like symptoms start. Common are fever, headache, dry cough, myalgias(back pain), nausea without vomiting, abdominal discomfort with some diarrhea, loss of smell, anorexia, fatigue.

Day 5 of symptoms- increased SOB, and bilateral viral pneumonia from direct viral damage to lung parenchyma.

Day 10- Cytokine storm leading to acute ARDS and multiorgan failure. You can literally watch it happen in a matter of hours.

81% mild symptoms, 14% severe symptoms requiring hospitalization, 5% critical."

There’s no evidence that it’s been weaponized.

It’s a very close cousin of the SARS virus from 2002-2003. 86% the same.

In fact the actual name of the Covid virus is SARS-CoV-2. Covid-19 is the name of the outbreak. They have renamed the original SARS virus SARS-CoV-1

10 year old version, as always it is gonna be fine. This is a grown up version of a frontline report telling others on the frontline what to watch for. I kinda got that opinion.

Why so insistent in pushing this hoax?

I’m involved with math professionally as part of my job.

The calculations in many country lend themselves to the most lopsided and misrepresented kind of statistical calculations. Completely unreliable, misleading...as if...on purpose.

I am strongly suspicious of NY right now, and their efforts to exaggerate their numbers by playing fast and loose with math.

Hey, if you are frothing at the mouth...upset, perhaps you should get a check up?

I didn’t write it. I don’t ask you how much legal training you have when you run your mouth about Supreme Court opinions.

HAHA...tell me when I've run my mouth about S.C. opinions...LOL!!

As if I’ve offered any opinion at all on it (I do have one), I just posted the link to this Dr’s story.

Could care less about what you think...

you are Mad, FluBro, and not in the “angry” sense of the word.

And you are an idiot...in the full sense of the word.

Another take on this contagion, which may involve simply fighting fire with heat.

He is guessing the proportions of what he is seeing. Not “all patients”. He is try to say this is very serious. Nobody ever seriously anticipated this.

I spent Sunday in a large ER in Hartford. About six hours.

The place was a ghost town. The normal ER patients were staying away. People were not driving, so little trauma. No shootings. No families. No noise.

It was the creepiest thing I’ve felt in a long time.

I asked where the Covid people were. The only ones coming in were intubated, tested, and sent upstairs. They had a no visitor policy, and an external testing site.

this is probably the sepsis

From what I'm reading in this article, there is a correlation between the heart/lungs and kidneys which filter the blood. In well people, there's always a presumed connection between these 3 organs.

However, there seems to be a connection here with the various comorbidities mentioned in the article: Diabetes, Hypertension and kidney disease. Again, in a clinical realm we already know there's a presumed cause & effect when it comes to these organs. Now add heart failure and you've got even more to think about. Which came first, a person with an unknown, undiagnosed heart disorder (?) or the corona virus causing the body's immune system to attack itself?

These comorbid conditions aren't generally treated with the Zpack (mentioned by Mr. Trump) or other steroid/antibiotics except for prophylactic reasons - until maybe the storm that was mentioned, but by then...who knows what will happen?. If they go down one path of treatment and the other is needed, they miss the target.

There's a piece of the puzzle piece here that's missing, and age along with pre-existing comorbid conditions are only part of it. Can't grasp it yet, but then - I'm not a physician nor a lab tech, I only work with them and have only enough clinical knowledge to be dangerous. I AM listening, though!

Cytokines storm is a sort of new subgroup of what we used to call “septic shock.”

Worse, we have pre-existing conditions: an opposition party determined to remove the President from office no matter the cost.

No. A cytokine storm is a massive immune system over-reaction that can damage major organs or even kill you.

A small psoriasis patch is the product of a cytokine storm. It doesn't have to be massive.

And here is another stat for you: "From October 1, 2017 through April 28, 2018, 30,453 laboratory-confirmed influenza-related hospitalizations were reported through the Influenza Hospitalization Surveillance Network (FluSurv-NET), which covers approximately 9% of the U.S. population." - The CDC. So far - "A total of 6,140 persons are hospitalized across the nation with COVID-19" - CDC.

So - we are 1/5 of the numbers of hospitalizations - with most of them still being there - and we have just started - whereas in 2017 - 2018 - these were spread over 7 months.

Not sure what part of "overwhelming the system" you people aren't getting.

The death rate for the flu in 2018-2019 was about 0.92%, or .0091.

The death rate for the flu to hospitalizations was higher than that. Flu infections are estimated at 10% of the population. A vast majority don’t even tell their spouse, let alone go to the doctors.

There are a ton of folks tossing numbers around without calibrating what they mean.

It’s uncommon, but just about any virus can attack the heart. Frequently when it happens, it happens to an otherwise young, healthy person. (I’ve also seen it happen in children).

I talked to someone a couple of months ago who had a family member this had happened to about 5 or 6 years ago. He had what he thought was a bad cold and bronchitis. He was in his 20’s, had never used drugs, nonsmoker, nondrinker, athletic, in great shape.

The left ventricle of his heart-the largest chamber, the one that pumps blood throughout the body- was nearly destroyed. He has a mechanical device implanted that helps his heart continue to function.

This is the first I’ve heard of COVID19 affecting the heart. I’m not saying it’s true or not true, I just hadn’t heard it before. That is, affecting the heart more often than usually seen with viruses- as I said before, this happens from time to time with viruses.
