Abortion facilities can stay open for business in New Mexico during the coronavirus outbreak.
On Wednesday, pro-abortion Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued an order temporarily prohibiting all non-essential health services in the state to preserve medical supplies for the patients who need them most, according to The NM Political Report.
However, Lujan Grisham exempted abortion facilities from her order, allowing them to continue aborting unborn babies and using up scarce medical resources to do it.
New Mexico is suffering from a shortage of personal protective equipment, and some medical workers are organizing public protests to highlight the problem, according to the report. Lujan Grisham said they requested more from the federal government, but there is a national shortage and they expect to receive only about 25 percent of their request.
Despite the crisis, Lujan Grisham exempted abortions, which are not essential or life saving. Her order allows “the full suite of family planning services” to continue, including abortions; her stay-at-home order also exempts abortion facilities, the report states.
Governor Grisham is coming under fire from a pro-life group in the state.
as the New Mexico Alliance For Life told LifeNews.com it’s very unhappy with her decision and is “calling on Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to take immediate action and abide by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid directives to limit all non-essential medical procedures in the state of New Mexico.”
“Despite the risk of exposure to patients and transmission across state lines, as well as limited medical supplies and personnel on the front lines, non-essential clinics continue to operate in New Mexico offering elective or non-essential abortion procedures,” the group told LifeNews. “These entities actively advertise and accommodate out-of-state patients due to New Mexico’s lack of protections for abortion procedures, including: no parental involvement requirement for abortions on underage minors and the ability to obtain elective or “non-essential” abortion procedures up to 32 weeks ( 8 months) and beyond on a “case by case” basis.”
It added: “As Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has indicated, the postponement of non-essential services not only preserves limited medical supplies and personal protective equipment for the greatest area of need during the pandemic. It will also allow medical personnel to serve those on the frontlines and protect patients by limiting their exposure to Coronavirus. It is well established that the majority of abortions are non-medically necessary or “non-essential” procedures that must be postponed. This is an urgent matter of public health and safety and to not act in accordance with the non-essential medical procedure directives jeopardizes public health and safety.”
ACTION: Contact Governor Grisham and urge her to close abortion clinics to help patients during the corona-virus crisis.
Two days earlier, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy did basically the same thing, specifically exempting abortions from his mandate on medical restrictions. Pro-abortion Democrat governors in Massachusetts and Washington state also carved out exceptions allowing elective abortions to continue during the coronavirus crisis.
Other governors have issued similar orders limiting non-essential medical procedures, but abortion facilities continue to do abortions there as well. Abortion businesses are still open in California and Pennsylvania, despite their governors’ bans on non-essential medical care. LifeNews reported about similar situations in Illinois, Maine and Puerto Rico last week.
Despite what pro-abortion Democrat governors claim, abortions are elective. What’s more, they are not life-saving, they are life-destroying. An unborn baby is killed, and its mother’s life is put at risk.
Some states are doing the right thing, closing abortion facilities along with other non-essential medical providers to focus on saving lives from the coronavirus. They include Texas, Maryland, Mississippi, Louisiana and Ohio.
On Tuesday, national pro-life leaders sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services urging a national ban on abortions during the pandemic.
“While surgery centers postpone elective and diagnostic procedures, abortion centers are churning out surgical and chemical abortions and putting women, especially the poor, at risk,” the letter reads. “Their continued operation depletes sorely needed personal protective equipment and leads to complications that will further overwhelm already overextended emergency rooms.”
Women do not need to abort their unborn babies to be healthy. Common abortion complications include infections, blood clots, hemorrhaging and an incomplete abortion where parts of the baby remain inside the mother’s womb. Abortion risks include future preterm births, breast cancer, suicide, anxiety/depression, and death. And it simply is not true that abortions are safer than childbirth.
Recently, medical groups representing more than 30,000 doctors in America emphasized that abortions are not “essential” or “urgent,” and abortion facilities that continue to operate during the pandemic are being “medically irresponsible.”

No words adequate to describe the depravity of these people.
My wife is losing her sight, but her cataract surgery is indefinitely postponed. My neighbor can’t get her foot surgery done so she has trouble walking.
Both are considered less essential than abortion.
You have to understand if you are a Democrat or other liberal, every live birth is a cosmic failure. A live birth is worse for the planet than a collision with another planet or a supernova of the sun.
