The Wake County Sheriff’s Office will suspend pistol and concealed-carry permit applications until April 30 as demand surges amid the coronavirus outbreak, Sheriff Gerald Baker announced Tuesday.

Applications that have already been submitted will continue to be processed, Baker said during a press briefing.

Pistol permit applications last week averaged 290 per day, or more than three times the roughly 90 applications per day during the same time period a year ago, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Baker said his office needs time to manage the backlog.

Whomever has freedom to purchase and the means, please do so and send a message. Buy American made ammo and gun products. We need to save the industry.

My daughter and her husband both have had one for a few years. Live outside the belt line on the north side of Raleigh.

His office sent him home to work about two weeks ago and he’s doing fine. Tec savvy company so it’s just like being in the office - but very relaxed dress code - slippers and the cats.

Not a good defense position - small houses on small lots and very close together. Hard to get a look around without going out into the street.

Before they eliminated the need for a permit, NH had “shall issue” law and they had 10 days no stalling. Last one I received was from a small town that had just eliminated the Police force (part time employee). The Chair of the selectboard processed it. Now we don’t have to ask permission.

If you are suspending permit applications, then you should also suspend the need for a permit.

Same here in Maine.

Maine people do not need permits.

And we have private sales....Michael Bloomturd’s ballot measure in 2016 to ban private sales in Maine failed.

FU Bloomturd!

You haven’t been paying attention to the run on guns and ammo over the last few weeks, have you?

From what I can tell, there’s very little left to sell. Not that I was looking to buy, but I’m an interested observer.

Of course not withstanding that the 2nd amendment should be the only “permit” needed.

Small, family owned shop I frequent in Colorado:
Saturday before last $50,000 in sales
last Saturday $40,000 in sales.
midweek $30,000 in sales(low stock of everything)
Limit of 2 boxes of ammo.
Only 10 people at a time in store as of last week
4 days for background checks to go thru.

I was seriously considering finally buying an M1A1, only because it looks like my BCT rifle.

Anyone here have one? What do you think of yours'?

I’d like to add an M1A1 to my armory at some point, but I have held off. All my big guns are free floated for precision shooting and the M1A1 would be a departure from that. I have heard good things about it none-the-less, particularly the competition version that has the really nice barrel.

They’ve been here 5 years longer than you.

Others, like me, have been here a LOT longer than you.

Slow your roll there.

Yes, I’m trying incessantly to drive the point home. We could lose our rights and our companies unless we step up. A perennial battle. If you see it buy it.

Complete Nothingburger.

Current applications still being processed.

“Baker said his office needs time to manage the backlog.”

Stop the hysteria.
