The virus also cant live on imported food packaging, the FDA says, adding it could only survive on a surface for a short period of time, which, depending on the surface could be from a few hours to a few days.

Great. Just commenting based on an article I saw.
“Studies” say 26C and humid.
For steaks, speak harshly to them, sear on both sides and enjoy. :) I don’t like them that way actually.
Seemed like, at first, we'd elected a good one, ya know ?
My disillusion started with that Orwellian 'Patriot Act' and declined in degrees as the years passed.
... the nature of the virus itself to answer the question about aerosol transmission...

To all those practicing high-level bio-security:
PERSISTENCE DOES NOT EQUAL CONTAGION.
The virus has a half-life outside the body. Within that time period of persistence, it immediately begins to lose the ability to infect.
Hand washing is good.
Counter cleaning is good.
Cooking food is good.
If you feel better wiping things down, fine.
We are vulnerable seniors who eat a large fresh salad every day. I keep my vegetables wrapped in paper towels, in green bags and dry until immediately prior to use. They last longer. I discard exterior wrapping. Bananas and tomatoes are out on the counter, tomatoes inside their box which is inside a green bag.
We are just fine. I don’t know what they do at the grocery store, but each entire store in my area reeks of alcohol and bleach.
We have two groceries in my town. Both very busy and well-staffed with workers doing 15 hour shifts. THERE ARE NO CASES HERE & (obviously) NO DEATHS.
Transmission is primarily aerosolized liquids from a sneeze or cough. Practice reasonable hygiene, stay 4’ away from people, wipe cart handles and relax.
I am seeing instances of severe anxiety in some people I know or observe. Panic does not equal better protection. Stress lowers immunity.
It is not airborne, BTW. It can travel within human secretions from a sneeze or cough until it lands on something. I have not seen or heard a sneeze or cough when shopping, so far.
Sorry I was abrupt. That article which has first? on CNBC and then at the NY Post was just awful. I think it was written in a way to scare people.
She is seeking validation. A needy ego lives on emotion not reason.
....
Well said!
It’s gotten so bad I sneezed on my computer and it automatically ran the antivirus program......
Good stuff reformed, thanks.
One of my employees was freaking. I showed her about the lipids and how soap destroys it. This thing is fragile. She relaxed completely but she has been cleaning and cleaning. Disinfectant first and let it work a minute. Then hot soapy water and rinse and wipe. Then another spray of soapy water. All good nothing wrong with this.
On the forum all the flubros pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Sooner or later they ought to change tactics ya know?
Why be complacent? Why panic? Take it seriously and keep washing hands.
For the record and as possible help to you, think Food City.
You can order on line and then pickup at the store. My wife did it, not me, and said it was messy at first but she got the hang of it.
Not every store has the service however. You might have to go into town. She ordered the groceries on line and they provided several pick up times. We arrived at the selected time and picked them up. on seeing my gray hair, they helped load them.
I am also advised they will deliver for I am told a $10 fee.
Why aren’t we all dead by now?
Her feet will take care of that.
For weeks now I have been ordering my groceries using the Wally World app and driving over to have them loaded. Some items are out of stock every time I order but seldom the same items each order. They will have a list of times available two days out.
Bwahaha, thanks, I needed that!
Can we emphasize that viruses are not alive? They persist; they do do not live on fomites. In order to live, they need to enter the human body (usually thru mucus membranes) and then invade and high-jack the replication machinery of the human cell. Also, if I understand the information available, there needs to be a sufficient quantity (*viral load*) to actually accomplish infection and cause illness.
I wonder (don’t know): if we wash out hands enough to cause extreme dryness and micro-cracks in the skin, can virus enter that way?
If we over clean some surfaces with harsh cleaners, can the subsequent degradation and roughening of the material provide places where viri particles accumulate?
I clean with 91% alcohol. Quick, takes little and dries quickly. I do this when items are introduced from outside. In between, I use my usual cleaner, Fabulosa &/or soapy water.
If no one in the house is ill and there has been no NEW introduction of people or items from outside since the last disinfection, I see no reason to continue anything beyond normal cleaning habits until new items or people are introduced again.
I have been cooking for 56 years. I clean as I go and use soap and running water constantly on hands (because I dislike having substances on my hands) and cutting boards. I am rarely ill. Never had home-based GI illness, ever. Have only had ecoli once, from a Korea buffet in Philadelphia in the 1990s. Cannot recall ever having flu. DH has not had flu in the time we’ve been together (46 years).
My late father had severe pneumonia at age 4 in 1918. I have wondered if those of us with parents who survived the 1918 Flu inherited any resistance?
People will relax as more and recoveries with hydroxychloroquine+Zpak+zinc are made known.
Anecdote is not data.
A preponderance of anecdote is data and will then be analyzed for an explanation. If that explanation is consistently accepted by clinicians, it will become unethical to withhold the combo treatment.
All these people screaming that Trump is *lying* about treatment will have blood on their hands.
Everyone inciting extreme anxiety and enabling what seems to be a lot of free-floating anxiety and barely-repressed OCD need to be called out for it.
Cooking it will kill it. Just wash your hands, used surfaces, etc after preparing as you normally would for safe food handling.
Well, that’s really good. I’m sure it is a great service for you
I think we will be giving them a try maybe this week
Try to go online after 1am, to get a spot for the next calendar date. I order at 12:30am on Monday to get a Wednesday pick up time. BY 1:30am all times are taken for the Wednesday!
I Saw a cleverly titled article by a microbiologist in Atlantic. Viruses are not alive, that is why they are hard to kill.
Never heard of getting a virus from too much washing. I did see that the Harvard epidemiologists were saying mucous membranes. It is the receptors in the upper respiratory tract that are so welcoming to this virus.
Very good comments reformed. Thanks!
