We will update the time series tables in the following days, aiming to provide a cleaner and more organized dataset consistent with our new/current naming convention. We will also be reporting a new variable (i.e, testing), as well as data at the county level for the US. All files will continue to be updated daily around 11:59PM UTC.
The followiing specific changes will be made:
Three new time series tables will be added for the US. The first two will be the confirmed cases and deaths, reported at the county level. The third, number of tests conducted, will be reported at the state level. These new tables will be named time_series_covid19_confirmed_US.csv
, time_series_covid19_deaths_US.csv
, time_series_covid19_testing_US.csv
, respectively.
Changes to the current time series include the removal of the US state and county-level entries, which will be replaced with a new single country level entry for the US. The tables will be renamed time_series_covid19_confirmed_global.csv
and time_series_covid19_deaths_global.csv
, and time_series_covid19_testing_global.csv
, respectively.
The ISO code will be added in the global time series tables.
The FIPS code will be added in the new US time series tables.
We will no longer provide recovered cases.
The current set of time series files will be moved to our archive folder, and the new files will be added to the current folder.
Thanks!

Whoa.
But this is bad because the halting of recovered case reporting makes it very hard to determine if things are getting better or worse.
To be fair, I suspect JH had no idea what they got themselves into when they set up this dashboard in January. Nonetheless, for those of us who use their data, caveat emptor.
What’s in it for JH to perpetuate fear? Money?
Recovered usually requires two days of consecutive negative tests.
And they aint wasting resources on people they KNOW had it.
WTF over?Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old farts life, it's worth it.

I noticed they had stopped reporting recovered cases.
That has made it impossible to determine active case levels in the U. S.
I view this as ignorance in action.
“If a quarantine saves just one child’s or one old farts life, it’s worth it.”
Yes, I agree, if anyone tests positive they should self-quarantine if they have either no symptoms or mild symptoms, be quarantined in hospital if their illness warrants it.
We do not quarantine the whole population for the flu and it kills millions. Taken to its local conclusion, your dicta would have the whole nation shut down every year for the whole flu season. Insane.
