California's Increase Of Unemployment Insurance Claims Is Absolutely Staggering

As California continues its statewide shelter-in-place order in response to the spread of coronavirus, California governor Gavin Newsom stated that the daily number of unemployment insurance claims in the state has skyrocketed dramatically.

During a press conference Monday night, Newsom reported that the daily average of claims over the last seven days is 106,000. The normal average per day is just 2,500, meaning the number of jobless claims has increased by over 4,000%. The governor called for block grants from the federal government to help the state pay for benefits.

"It is critical that the states get these block grants, that states have the capacity to meet this moment without exhausting their unemployment insurance funds," he said.

Given the cost of living in cities like San Francisco metro and Los Angeles. This comes as no surprise.

And you wonder why the President is pondering Easter as a start up date.

Used to be that for employees to qualify for unemployment insurance benefits the company had to have paid in. Is that still the case?

Hey Gov I could use a car payment block grant, a mortgage block grant, an electric bill block grant, a property tax block grant....

See we are all in the same situation, but some of us have a rainy day fund......

From Woody Guthrie’s dong Do Re Mi....

Don’t swap your old cow for a car,
You better stay right where you are,
Better take this little tip to you from me.

‘Cause I look through the want ads every day
But the headlines on the papers always say:
If you ain’t got the do re mi, boys, you ain’t got the do re mi,
Why, you better go back to beautiful
Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee.
California is a garden of Eden, a paradise to live in or see;

But believe it or not, you won’t find it so hot
If you ain’t got the do re mi.

Giving block grants to Dem governors, who are inept crooks, would be a huge mistake.

More like a 42% increase, but hey I get it 4,000 percent sells news.

$2500 x 4000 = $10,000,000 million

$106,000 / $2500 = 42.4 x increase

“Given the extraordinary number of applications received recently, as well as the expectation that claims will continue to increase over the coming weeks, the Legislature should anticipate that first benefit payments will take much longer than 21 days,” the report states. “Similar delays occurred during the Great Recession.”!

A multiple of 42 is not equal to 42%.

Wouldn’t it 2,500 X 1.42 for a 42% increase? 3,550?

I was thinking more of illegals who are paid cash(I assume to avoid paying taxes) or people like Uber driver’s who I think operate as contractors.

My thoughts are the democraps trying to extend benefits as they did with S.S. and Medicare. Programs that were once insurance that the rats have converted to welfare. S.S.I. and Medicaid specifically.

Check your math and add a couple of zeros. If 2500 is the daily average, a 100% increase would be 5000.

It increased 42 times over the original number.

So yes ever 10 would be 1,000 % and yes it is over 4,000 % or 4,200%.

My bad I am tired.

Well, DeBlasio was just on Fox, calling for the government to commandeer all industry in the U.S. and to mobilize the military.

He wants communism now I guess.

If the economy remains shut down and a depression...or even a dark age...ensues, then I guess we will get communism, or one of its cousins, by default.

We might lose a couple million and see the health care system overwhelmed. With an American collapse...it’s economy keeps Western Society intact...we will not only lose at least that many lives, maybe many multiples of that many lives when our cities turn into violent Hell-zones and many different civil wars break out. Poverty with no chance, no hope , no food, no homes and no supply chain creates violence writ large. And the precious health care system won’t work then either.

And with an America with no economy and in violent civil conflict, how long until the communist Chinese become our saviors? They are willing to sacrifice not millions, but hundreds of millions if necessary, in order to become the one sole superpower on Earth. They can, and they will. Ready to become a ward, or a slave, to your Chinese masters? Kill off our economy and you will get the opportunity.
