Gov. John Bel Edwards (D-Louisiana) is requesting a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Louisiana as the number of cases of COVID-19 grows and the state’s efforts to combat the spread of illness intensifies. The declaration would allow the federal government to provide additional support for state and local agencies in dealing with this growing public health threat.
“It is still impossible to know exactly how long the COVID-19 pandemic will impact Louisiana, but what we do know is that we have more cases per capita than every state, except for New York and Washington. Sadly, 34 people have died in Louisiana and our case count continues to rise, which is why we need additional federal aid.” said Gov. Edwards. “We have overwhelmed our stocks of key resources needed for our hospitals, first responders and emergency managers. There will be a long-lasting impact on the state of Louisiana, and we have taken aggressive mitigation measures to fight the spread of COVID-19. I have been appreciative of the support of the federal government, especially Vice President Mike Pence’s COVID-19 task force, and I am hopeful FEMA will quickly approve our request as we continue our response and work towards recovery.”

Gov. Edwards previously issued a Public Health Emergency on March 11 in response to the spread of COVID-19 in Louisiana. So far, COVID-19 has affected 1,172 people in 44 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes.

Jefferson Parish (part of New Orleans area) has:
293 cases

Mardi Gras took precedence
Some of the millions of dollars wasted recently to destroy monuments to American veterans would should come in handy right about now.
The city of New Orleans should have thought about priorities. The city is a sink of corruption.
Some perspective: Back when people here on FreeRepublic were laughing at the Epstein/Hillary caricatures on that Mardi Gras parade float, the entire country only had around 35 identified cases of the Wuhan Flu. There were no event cancellations being considered at that time.
Page 7 of the pdf says that most of the affected are those who test positive and are homeless. If I read that correctly, that is probably a bunch of druggies. Call me cruel, but if that is the case, then good riddance.
As it should. Mardi Gras is a party the likes of which I had never seen until I experienced it.

I like how the Senator from Louisiana said that “one or two people might of had too much to drink during Mardi Gras.” Yeah, right.
Edwards better hopes nobody takes a look at the latest proposed budget...
