As the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19 spreads across the globe, with cases surpassing 284,000 worldwide today (March 20), misinformation is spreading almost as fast.
One persistent myth is that this virus, called SARS-CoV-2, was made by scientists and escaped from a lab in Wuhan, China, where the outbreak began.
A new analysis of SARS-CoV-2 may finally put that latter idea to bed. A group of researchers compared the genome of this novel coronavirus with the seven other coronaviruses known to infect humans: SARS, MERS and SARS-CoV-2, which can cause severe disease; along with HKU1, NL63, OC43 and 229E, which typically cause just mild symptoms, the researchers wrote March 17 in the journal Nature Medicine.

We’re on the same side. Your comment seemed to insinuate the virus originated from Chapel Hill. It did not.
Parts of the engineered components of the virus came from Chapel Hill as part of usual research exchange but the actual complete engineered virus came from a PRC lab in Wuhan.

The article merely argues against the virus being bioengineered. It doesn’t say anything against the theory that the virus is natural and was isolated and weaponized in a lab.
Yes.. The DS and the ChiComs were deeply saddened their bioweapon was not as devastating as they had hoped it to be.
It looks like there's a treatment, but there is still a lot of work to do.

Novel here doesn’t mean ‘natural’.
So....we have a virus, that escaped intense inspection from scientists in facilities all over the world, that was able to evolve without detection, suddenly infect a whole bunch of people in one country, specifically Wuhan, China, where one of the largest study and creation labs of bio weapons in the world is located, the Wuhan Institute of Virology. and this evolving happen so fast that it was able to attack and infect over 100 countries in less than 90 days after identification when it couldn’t have existed prior without being found with all the vigilance worldwide, is the answer to the puzzle.

I’ve read a couple of articles on this (I have a background in molecular virology from a former life) and I find the arguments for natural evolution quite convincing.
YMMV of course. Not going to debate this one, just offering my opinion.

If you read the Nature report, it says right near the beginning the genomic sequencing data came from a PRC virology lab via the WHO.
Now here's another fact that is hard to swallow but is true. The head of the infectious office at the WHO came from a Marxist group and was/is a known member of a terrorist group.

If I may add the gain of function studies on the first SARS. The production of SHC014-MA15 & SHC014-Cov. Tested on human lung cells and rats modified to have human lung cells with the ACE2 receptor. The results were disquieting.

We absolutely had the means to produce this virus and had been working with Chimeric versions of the original SARS for some 10 years.
Specifically, we were working out how to get the Bat Virus, it unusual spike (SHC014), onto the back of the COV for purposes of its conveyance to humans.

This virus apparently is not genetically engineered. If it were, it could be traced back to someone or somewhere. The 2015 virus was engineered by an international team.

The chapel hill experiment warns that is could naturally occur. There was some controversy at the time for them even doing this experiment.
So yes it could be natural
But it also happened near a bioweapon lab with a bat that I believe is not natural for the area..
So..it could also be man made

But in this case, Chapel Hill research labs were playing nice science games with ‘respected’ Chinese scientists.
We need to wake up and we will be waking up to the fact that the PRC has played us more than we could ever imagine.
