Density Is New York City’s Big ‘Enemy’ in the Coronavirus Fight
New York Times ^ | March 23, 2020 | Brian M. Rosenthal

New York has tried to slow the spread of the coronavirus by closing its schools, shutting down its nonessential businesses and urging its residents to stay home almost around the clock. But it faces a distinct obstacle in trying to stem new cases: its cheek-by-jowl density.

New York is far more crowded than any other major city in the United States. It has 28,000 residents per square mile, while San Francisco, the next most jammed city, has 17,000, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

All of those people, in such a small space, appear to have helped the virus spread rapidly through packed subway trains, busy playgrounds and hivelike apartment buildings, forming ever-widening circles of infections and making New York the nation’s epicenter of the outbreak.

“Density is really an enemy in a situation like this,” said Dr. Steven Goodman, an epidemiologist at Stanford University. “With large population centers, where people are interacting with more people all the time, that’s where it’s going to spread the fastest.”

The challenge facing New York and other tightly cramped cities around the United States can be seen by comparing the country’s largest city to its second biggest, Los Angeles.

As of Monday, there were more than 13,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York and about 500 in Los Angeles. New York reported 125 deaths; Los Angeles reported seven.

The population of Los Angeles is about half of New York’s, and it has conducted significantly fewer tests for the coronavirus. But researchers said one of the biggest reasons for the difference may be that in general, California residents live further apart from each other.

“Out here, we’re spread out,” said Dr. Lee Riley, professor of infectious diseases at the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health.

For decades, leftists have been trying to herd people into mass transit and apartments in cities and out of cars and single-family homes in the suburbs. No!

Having a judge overturn the ban on Iranian entry didn’t help either.

Our largest cities are Democrat-controlled hell holes. They contain half our population — at least as of today. Drastic political changes may be coming as the death toll rises.

TPTB literally begged to have NYC exposed to the virus.

On Feb. 9, NYC Health Commisioner tweeted: “Today our city is celebrating the #LunarNewYear parade in Chinatown ... I want to remind everyone to enjoy the parade and not change any plans due to misinformation spreading about #coronavirus.”

Also on Feb. 9, Mark D. Levine, Council member for the 7th District of the New York City Council (Democrat), tweeted: In a powerful show of defiance of #coronavirus scare, huge crowds gathering in NYC’s Chinatown for ceremony ahead of annual #LunarNewYear parade. ... If you are staying away, you are missing out!”

A great clip from Tucker’s show last night showing RATs poo-pooing the virus, who now are criticizing Trump for not being serious about the virus.

Man, you’re not kidding. I have ridden that subway, it was one person for every 2 square feet at rush hour, S.R.O., all bumping into each other.

NO THANKS!

Meanwhile, California is in big trouble but will not admit it

LA is RIO. San Francisco is Mumbai. The tent cities are like the illegal Rio and Mumbai slums where the disease will destroy the city.

COVID 19 is trivial compared to the coming out break of cholera or Typhus or even typhoid in the tent dweller slums

I’m pretty sure density is the problem.

(And I don’t mean population density.)

Density? For Totalitarians, Socialist and Fascist like mayor and governor of New York... This is their day in the sun. The ability to give orders to the masses to comply... Or else.

In Japan they have 160 million plus people and 42 deaths. They have only closed schools. Bars, businesses and other retail operations remain open.... The subways are still packed like sardines with commuters.

The difference. The Japanese wear mask and their cultural greeting is a bow, not a handshake. Italy has been locked down for almost two weeks... 60 million people and over 6,000 deaths. Do the math and figure it out.

Lock downs do not work.

A further complication in the NYC metro area is the fact that as Americans have fled they’ve been replayed with millions of uneducated Thirdworlders. They just have different ways of doing things that would disgust normals...

Yes density and the middle aged and elderly with underlying conditions is just one of many but don’t dare add in the highest concentration of HIV from the gay community and the heterosexually irresponsible, Hep C, TB /drug addicts and the homeless, a large Asian and muslim population, illegal immigrants from all over. Add to this the arrogant and the irresponsible
