Sheetz making changes to food service over coronavirus concerns

Sheetz will be making changes to how customers will be able to shop at its convenience store.

On Monday, Sheetz announced that it would be stopping self-serve coffee and other drink machines, as well as stopping the availability of self-serve pastries in its bakery.

“Sheetz is doing everything we can to prioritize the health and well-being of our team members, customers and the communities we serve as the situation around COVID-19 continues to evolve,” Sheetz President and CEO Travis Sheetz said in a press release. “These changes are in the best interest of our customers and employees as we remain a vital resource for our communities.”

As part of the changes, Sheetz customers will now have to order coffee from the touch-screen menus or ask an employee for assistance. All the bakery items like donuts and muffins will no longer be available for sale, and customers will also not be able to get drinks such as fountain drinks, fresh-brewed team, frozen drinks or milkshakes.

The press release said the convenience store will also be enhancing daily cleaning of the touch-screen machines, gas pumps, countertops and other high-touch areas.

Sheetz is a mid-Atlantic regional convenience store chain.

Notice that they are doing this on their own, WITHOUT an order from the Governors of the states they serve.

People and businesses CAN be trusted to DO THE RIGHT THING.

Oh Sheetz, no donuts for sale. It is the end of the world.

Get the battering rams ready. We have a couple Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins near us, often in the same building.

Charge! - by card or online account!!!

tell that to Tom Wolf. I’ve been placed on 3 weeks or so paid leave and after that the income will be dry. He better get his act together and open things up in that time frame.

I’ve been pleased to see how Sheetz has been dealing with this challenge in my neck of the woods. I haven’t been making my regular trips there in recent days, but they now have a very loyal customer here.

This company makes me feel conflicted. On the one hand I want to minimize contact with their staff for their own protection, but on the other hand I really want them to do a lot of business while they can.

More entrepreneurial spirit!

Perhaps not as eye catching as Boober Eats in Portland Or...

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

The false positive rate was 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old fart’s life, it's worth it.

People need to realize: many if not most of these public health measures will be PERMANENT. You will never see another self-serve donut counter in a convenience store. Either you will ask the clerk, or things will be pre-packaged.

I feel for you. I have had my entire Spring Fairs and Festival run cancelled. Tens of thousands of dollars lost, never to be made up. Currently living on $40 a week for the next three months until our next fair in mid June.

I went to PetValu the other night to snag some more clearance dog food.

I walked in the door and some terrifyingly chirpy, fever-eyed little chonky chick stranger literally bounced right up in my face and squeaked “HI! I’M YOUR PERSONAL SHOPPER TODAY!’

[WTF? How do I know YOU aren’t plague-ridden?]

Then she pointed out the tape lines on the floor that led from the door to the checkout counter.

I was NOT to step outside those at peril of my life...or something.

The clearance bags were right where I was and she managed to hoist them into my cart, which was rammed against the counter, the whole time.

Then the cashier asked me if that would be all for me, tonight.

HTF SHOULD I KNOW, SINCE I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO MOVE ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE STORE???

Got a sermon about how they’d have to ‘sterilize’ everything I touched, if I were allowed out of my Duct Tape Prison.

So I asked, exactly, how my EYES would be “contaminating” anything, should I just go around and LOOK.

/commence sermon about plague rats or something

The grocery store right next door had no such perimeters that I was not allowed to cross.

The world has gone mad.

Theme for the whole damn thing

Around here 711 got rid of boiled peanuts and the self service hot dogs etc. Still pouring one’s own drinks, but that will change soon.

Always stop at Sheetz when I am traveling thru Pennsylvania. Their made to order (MTO) is a great way to order food and the staff are always pleasant and helpful.

Wish there were some in Dayton Ohio.

That is true. This will change all our lives permanently. Food products will have to be packaged. Buffets with sneeze guards will have to be made safe. Scanning will replace touch pads and I’ll be forced to dump my old flip phone for a new iphone. Everyone will end up chipped. All hail the 666.

Lots of Sheetz’s in Maryland. They’re doing the right thing. Take that, Governor Fauxgan!

Can’t say I see that as a bad thing. Public picking through donuts or putting germy hands on the coffee spout are some things I can do without. And, as someone upthread noted, Sheetz is doing this on its own and not on government orders.

I’ve heard the Chinese Restaurants will no longer be serving bat soup.
Although, they will still be giving germ infested bills and coins.

“”Then she pointed out the tape lines on the floor that led from the door to the checkout counter. I was NOT to step outside those at peril of my life...or something.”

Sounds like something out of a futuristic dystopian society that would have been shown in a late 1960’s British TV series.
