The coronavirus outbreak is exposing the vast differences between how the rich and poor live in America in 2020.
The gaps became clear almost immediately, when companies and governments began advising employees to work from home. Bankers and corporate employees could go remote. People working on the front lines of the restaurant and retail industries could not, especially as stores were flooded with panicked people stockpiling pre-isolation.
"What do I do?" a Walmart employee told Hayley Peterson and Shoshy Ciment in early March. "I'm scared. I'm scared to lose my job and I'm scared to die from the coronavirus. Please help me."

The ones who can least afford it will be hurt the most.
Yes.
Just like FearRepublic!
” “I’m scared. I’m scared to lose my job and I’m scared to die from the coronavirus. Please help me.”” Which item does this individual control? There are certain jobs that can NOT be done remotely. If you don’t want to chance it, don’t go to work if you have one that requires to to be on site. One can reduce the exposure opportunities when possible. Perhaps some folks are just more susceptible to contracting the disease.
Yes and now the POTUS is getting terrible economic advice. So after he throws the kitchen sink at the economic fall out whats next? Its like blindly shooting 30 rounds at an attacker 500 meters away only to be out of bullets when he states you in the face.
If there is NO HOPE FOR THE FUTURE why is my TV flooded with gardening advertisements?
“People working on the front lines of the restaurant and retail industries could not, especially as stores were flooded with panicked people stockpiling pre-isolation.”
Definitely an argument for not having a job working in a restaurant or factory as you are vulnerable to these sorts of things.
Also don’t expect this to be the last pandemic. Terrorists are watching with interest.
I think we recover from this in a few months but I don’t think we unlearn behaviors of late and I think people will be more germ aware and it will have an impact on certain industries. Cruise industry?
People looking out for each other. Americans. That is my experience. For now anyway.
As long as they still sell green bananas, there is hope.
I think a lot of people are noticing the elite don’t care for the little people, unless they are paying their bills. The elite get tested before anyone else, buy out local grocery stores, post pictures of tough isolation in 50 room mansions but never mention the “help”, throw road blocks in front of Trump then complain he gets nothing done. I would hope when this is over we have a new definition of woke.

At-home coronavirus tests now available, companies say (Fox News)
As coronavirus testing in the U.S. continues to lag behind that in other highly affected countries such as South Korea, several domestic startups are reportedly launching the first at-home tests.
The products have been greenlit by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under new expedited guidelines to help combat the virus, according to Stat, a health care industry news outlet.
One such test provider is Nurx, a San Francisco-based company best known for home testing products for sexually transmitted infections and birth control, now offers testing kits for COVID-19 through the mail for $181 after prospective customers fill out an online form with their symptoms.
We dont look for the severity of symptoms, only the presence of them. They can range from mild to severe, Nurx spokeswoman Allison Hoffman told SFGate.com. But, people with truly severe symptoms should also seek immediate care. In terms of temperature in particular, we determine a fever is 100.4 [degrees] plus.
After filling out the online survey, Nurx will determine if testing is necessary based on the persons symptoms and will mail the test via expedited shipping.
Nurx can give customers lab results within 48 hours of receiving the test, SFGate reported.
We are pivoting from our prior service lines to make this available, Chris Hall, senior clinical adviser for Nurx, told Stat. Its a heavy lift, but we think its important.

Over half of what’s posted nowadays is a blog of some kind or other. Putting “News”, “Pundit”, “Insider” etc in the name doesn’t make it not a blog.
The big thing will be when the antibody blood test becomes ubiquitous, and we find out how many had it and are now relatively safe.
I agree with this article - I have not seen any sign that any of my white-collar neighbors are the least bit concerned about effect of things like school closings on those who can’t work from home

Often those who advertise or purchase blocks of advertisement on TV do so well in advance. In times like this, many of those advertising had no idea what was going to occur in the future.
It doesnt get any more repulsive than that.
for millenials living in sf apartments, i advise that the guy on the top bunk sleep with the guy on the bottom bunk. the resultant space and heat energy savings can then be used to grow pot plants! not to mention the additional enlightenment that one obtains from smoking product!! :-)
