Loved Kenny Rogers.

Fave song....”The Gambler” and “Islands in the Stream” with Dolly Parton.

The soon-to-be mrs. jimfree and I saw Kenny at the Missouri State Fair in 1978. He was touring and introducing The Gambler. Nashville Brass opened in this concert that had a $4 ticket. Cheap date and great value.

You’re lucky. All his concerts were sell-outs; I never could get to see him, other than TV.

Lots of simple, cheesy 1980s songs ... but I loved that so many of them had great life lessons in them.

“The Gambler,” “The Coward of the County,” and “The Greatest” all had great examples of this.

I remember that song from some “sock hops” back in the early 60s, in high school.

My first concert after returning from Army service in West Germany in 1981 was Kenny Rogers with comedian Gallagher as the opening act. RIP...thanks for the songs & the memories.
