Momentum appears to be building for a national shutdown to confront the coronavirus crisis, raising the prospect that President Trump could issue an order requiring people to stay at home.
Such an order would be unprecedented in American history, but some of Trump's top advisors have said publicly they would be open to it. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Sunday he had raised the prospect of such a dramatic step with the administration.
“I think we should really be overly aggressive and get criticized for overreacting,” Fauci said Sunday on NBC's Meet The Press. “I think Americans should be prepared that they're going to have to hunker down significantly more than we as a country are doing.”
More and more states and cities on Friday were taking drastic steps to stop the spread of the coronavirus, which has infected more than 14,000 Americans.
Even some who have been outspoken critics of the Trump administration say faster action must be taken to avoid a catastrophe on the level that Italy faces today.
“We are 2 weeks behind Italy,” Ezekiel Emanuel, a former top Obama administration official now at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School, said Friday on MSNBC. “I am a little curious why the task force and the president have not made this a mandate nationwide. Not the lockdown but a mandate for all the states and to close restaurants and do the other things. It seems to me they are being slow on this.”

Is this really necessary when most states are effectively shut down anyway? What is the reasoning?

Somehow in the past two weeks we have entered a parallel universe. A sprinkle of kudos to the president from some of the MFM in the past few days and now want him to go full dictator.
Ezekiel Emmanuel is Rahm Emmanuel’s brother.
Does anyone ever stop to think, that a president doesn’t have the authority to close restaurants and businesses in various states? Or do the liberals who bitch about Trump not doing enough not care about federalism, the various units of government, the need for disaster or emergency declaration, among other things?
Is tThere is something about this virus that we are not being told?
Brett Baier just misrepresented that comment, saying that Trump isn't for any total shutdowns.

I’m now in the luxurious position to disconnect the phone, tv, computer and just eat, drink and exercise all day. I can do that for the next month. I have a huge luxury office to myself and my wife and kids have the house to fight in. I’ll sure miss my dogs though so I better go visit them!
LA is functioning OK with the current situation. Restaurants are doing take-out only.
Thing is: I think many, possibly most restaurants and businesses will go out if business permanently as a result.
Shutting down may flatten the curve somewhat, but it conveys zero immunity.
When shutdown ends, we’re back in the same spot.
Meanwhile....wrap your minds around this: Triage is coming. Like it or hate it, it’s coming.

There will not be any shutdown.
I’ve not done it for 51 years why would I start now?
My sister lived in Leilani estates, here house two doors down from Fissure 8 where the mass of lava wiped out 1,000 homes.
The govt knew the lava was heading there, and refused to tell the residents because they didn’t want them to panic.
In some miracle, not one person died. But the govt would have been just fine otherwise.
