Bergamo is the epicentre of the hardest-hit province of Italy’s hardest-hit region, Lombardy, the site of hundreds of coronavirus deaths. Families here are deprived of a bedside farewell with virus-stricken loved ones, or even a traditional funeral, and the cemetery is so overwhelmed by the number of dead that military trucks transported 65 bodies to a neighbouring region for cremation this week.
Provincial mayors are sounding an alarm that the virus-related toll fails to reflect a spike in deaths in the general population among those who have not been tested. Last week alone, 400 people died in Bergamo and 12 neighbouring towns — four times the number who died the same week the previous year, according to the Bergamo mayor’s office. Only 91 of those had tested positive for the virus.
“When the virus arrived here, there was no containment and it spread through the valleys very quickly. … Some said it was the normal flu. We doctors knew it was not,” Lorini said.
Funeral parlours already were registering an alarming increase in deaths starting in January and February, an anomaly they signalled to officials, said Antonio Ricciardi, head of a local funeral parlour association.
His business handled 611 funerals from March 1-18, when the usual pace is just over 100 in a full month.

We’re seeing the exact same hysterical speculation we saw from China. After the few thousand person spike, speculation that pretty much was completely wrong.

The are deaths that could have been prevented or postponed, but the beds were full.

May, possibly, probably, most likely, could be, what if, etc...All words used by the press to keep the media circus going.
Many of the collateral deaths that happened were NOT directly because of the coronavirus, but because medical services were stretched so thin that other critical care patients were simply abandoned to their fate, in a cruel triage that had to make a decision as to where to apply the remaining resources.
If you had a heart condition that required intensive care, and a corona virus victim came who was crashing, and needed that intensive care, how do you make that call? And in the end, both patients die.
Life is crappy sometimes.
How about going by what’s on the death certificates rather than needless hysteria?

The EU didn’t respond to Italy’s pleas for help. So much for globalism. Germany has more confirmed cases than the US, but only 44 deaths. What are they doing that we are not?
I find this whole thing odd.
If someone tells me that China has been lying and hiding information about this disease, I readily believe it. I understand why China would do that.
But Italy? Why would Italy lie or hide information? The deaths are actually higher than Italy has been saying? What? Why did Italy mislead people?
And Italy has been telling the EU — “we need help, we have a crisis, many people are dying” and yet it turns out that the deaths in Italy are higher than they have been saying?
This has got to be BS because it makes no sense.

The US has a median age of 38.5 with 17% over 65.

They have no reason to lie, and I don’t think that is what the article is saying - its saying that the number of people dying this past week was 4x what is was the same week last year (in that region of italy), and 3/4 of those people were never tested for the kungflu virus - the implication being that lots more people are dying from it then the stats represent - seems like a valid possibility? Who is going to test 300 dead people per week, after they died, when the healthcare system is already overwhelmed?

Yea, me too - especially since for the last few weeks the total number of reported deaths have actually gone down - not the new deaths, the total reported deaths are now less than they were 1-2 weeks ago.
People who died of this virus who did not know they had it?
People coincidentally dying of totally unrelated causes?
Need to be careful with the dot-connecting here.
